Have you considered mounting the winch in the rear under the bed between the frame rails ?
I did this to my M52 and also one of my M1028's the works great on both.

It was more of a liability issue I told a friend about this who works in a industry where he installs hyd equipment on trucks and other off road equipment and he said the liability of this is (his exact words) thru the roof...Part of the reason winches are usually installed via frame rail...
Another mod Im thinking about is either a cab swap or a transmission tunnel / hump swap.
Found this info at the link below, plenty of pics showing what years the trans tunnels came on what year chevy truck has what hump to make a transmission swap easier...
I would think that a chevy Dana 60 would start at 1k and top out at 1750-1800 They arent as desirable as the high pinion ford D60's but depending on how fresh or new and what gear would make the price go up...

To PO very good idea for those with batteries in series Batteries in my M1028 are in parallel so it wont benifit me but for those with standard CUCV setups this is an excellent idea..
You would most likely want to swap out (im assuming the 880 has a NP203 Transfer Case) for a NP205 as its part time and a much stronger case than the NP203.
Compare the center section location on the 44 you currently have with the D60 and the spring mount locations from the 44 to the 60.

I have that and the complete drum and backing plate assamblys if you want them But since they are complete I dont plan on selling just one of the parts thats attached to the backing plate (lever as you call it) Will post pics if you are intersted in purchasing the parts im discribing...
Your talking about the pedal on the left side of rhe cab floor that bolts thru the firewall with 2 5/16 studs ? Or you mean the mecanism that sits within the axle backing plate ?

There is one Bell that is IMHO better than the AA BELL its mfg by a company called Quicktime / now owned by lakewood but from memory its only for the dodge with a cummings engine.. AA has it tied up for the chevy engine pattern from everything ive read and heard....Or I would have a better...
