    My M1028 Project

    Looks very clean, Mesa!

    M1028 4.56 to 3.73 ?

I swapped my stock M1028 gears to 3.73. Had 4WheelParts do it, actually. total cost was around $2,400, I think (about 7 years ago). It made the truck drive-able on the freeway with no lift. I did loose the locker up front in the process, but could have added one that fit... for the cost of...

Combat Jump Bed Mount Farm Jack Bracket

llong66, What I have done is to drill the end of the bolts to accommodate small padlocks. It looks pretty trick. Use the combination locks so you don't have to worry about losing a key.

A crane for the m1028 bed!

Yep, those are just jackstands. I only need them for heavier lifting to prevent suspension compression.

A crane for the m1028 bed!

Crane in Action No ramp needed - I crane my bikes into the back when traveling. The crane has been a big help moving heavy tools (crated horizontal 7x12 bandsaw, generator, my spare 6.2L engine, and KTM 520)...

Adding An Auxiliary Fuel Tank - M1028

Follow up: Well, the tank has been in for one year and working great! Just a single glitch early on -I discovered that selecting a tank with the dash button would cause the fuel gauge to display the opposite tank! (I knew which was fuller). All it took was to swap the wires at the valve...

Wiper speed issue on 1985 cucv

I had the same problem on my 1985 M1028. When I got it, it worked. Then, one speed. A year later, the washer went bad; if I held the button for a full minute, it would work. Then the “return to park” would not work, and I’d have to time shutting off the wiper when the blades neared park...

    another no start

Can't diagnose the problem, but I feel your pain. My M1028 has been in the driveway for two weeks until I could pull two stuck glow plugs. Its my daily driver, so I've been commuting by bike as well (Hayabusa). My problem was the resistor pack went bad, and led to a cascade failure of the...

    Replacement Batteries: Exide, not Optima.

Job is done! Thanks for the feedback - its always helpful to see what others have done and found success (or not). The extra cables attached here are for the HF winch, 2m ham radio, and solargizer. The truck fires to life faster than it ever has! I am very satisfied the my Tractor Supply find.

    Replacement Batteries: Exide, not Optima.

Just wanted to share my recent experience with getting batteries for the M1028. In the past few days, I have been searching the posts on this topic, and feel what I have learned may help someone else. My original cube shaped military batteries died within months of getting the truck...

Adding An Auxiliary Fuel Tank - M1028

Recovery, You don't need to touch the gauge in the dash - just cut the wire from the main tank, and route it to the connector to the new tank selector valve. The valve connector has an output that then splices into the cut wire to the gauge. This way, when you select the tank with the dash...

Adding An Auxiliary Fuel Tank - M1028

Put a Fork In It - Its Done! This is where I drilled a hole through the firewall (an inch below the paint spot) to route the two switch wires. I used 16 gauge wire for all (18 is required by the valve, so "if more is better, too much is just right"). Actually, I drilled from inside the cab...

Adding An Auxiliary Fuel Tank - M1028

Tank is in. The tank is in. Plumbing and electrical work remain. Note that the brackets are different (front and rear), and front strap bolt goes into a different hole in the bracket than the rear does (doh!) My pic from yesterday shows the wrong hole. It should go into the lower of the...

Adding An Auxiliary Fuel Tank - M1028

The tank is ready to install The brackets are from LMC Truck. I also sprung for the "silencing pads" which appear to be nothing more than tar paper. They fit under the steel straps. Adapting the filler neck hose assembly (a junkyard find) to fit this model of Chevy took some doing. I'll...

Adding An Auxiliary Fuel Tank - M1028

Thanks, Smitty! I've got the correct brackets, and will be doing some more work in it this weekend. I'll post pictures.
