Hey, no worries, too bad you are in pain. You were kind enough (the only one) to respond to my original post, thanks for that.
My original question revolved around my third gear (slides on the shaft before the 5th gear bushing is "pressed" on) being "loose", when the TM states "press third gear...
OK, since I'm the only guy (apparently) to ever disassemble a mainshaft, here's my report. The shaft journal to component ID's tell the story. 3rd gear to shaft fit is called out as .0035"-.0045", so no press fit. The fifth gear sleeve to shaft fit is .000"-.001" tight, so loose press to .001"...
A while back I'm having trouble getting trans into 3rd gear. Then one day, I feel a "clunk" going into 3rd, after which 3rd gear is unsynchronized. All other gears operate fine. I can also get into 3rd at a standing stop. Took the top off the trans this week, expecting to see the 2nd/3rd synchro...
I would say that if you don't have $200-$300 a month that you COULD spend on your Deuce, you should stay away for now. That is, unless you don't mind watching it sit and rust for a few months while you look for an injector pump, a starter, or a "value-priced" transfer case. Money goes in large...
Welcome to the site. I bought my first (and only) Deuce after prowling here for a month or so. I was lucky enough to get a truck that had been maintained very well (my opinion, after seeing what some other members have dealt with). The speedo that's in the dash shows a LOT of miles, compared to...
Just a bump here, in the event someone is having problems like this. After replacing the HH, the truck ran fine, but would have a little trouble returning to idle. Fine when motor was cold, but after coming up to heat, she would want to die. My suspicion was the I had tightened the screws on the...
I'm not sure that anything needs to be added to this thread. BUT, one thing to consider for a young man making this decision is the availability of disposable income to make repairs. For instance, it may not seem like a big deal to replace an injector pump, finding one in a reasonable time frame...
Replaced the batteries with a couple of new Interstate 6TL's. Little extra $$, but the battery box is full of lead. New dogbone cable, new mil-spec battery terminals, "re-established" the system (frame) ground location. This thing spins like a top now, I didn't know the multifuel could spin this...
I'll bet you are onto something. I am BY FAR not an expert, but it makes sense that if the lower O-ring was leaking, the HH would drain. One other thing that I've picked up on in the forums is that a leaky plunger could cause you to "gain oil". Hope that isn't the case. Good luck.
I won't try to diagnose the drip problem, it could be the fuel control rod O-ring. This has been stated as being a -013 O-ring, usually widely available in many different materials. That's what I used, in Buna-N rubber. As far as the 3 O-rings:
HH Upper 2.484 ID x .139 -230
HH Lower 2.109 ID x...
I can tell you from experience that the line, or red tooth, on the HH driven gear, shown in Gimpy's photo (not the IP timing mark) needs to be EXACTLY lined up with the pointer, or you will pooch the stamped piece covering the drive gear that seems to be intended to keep you from screwing this...
I've got a farm plate. I ended up calling the SOS in Lansing, as my local office couldn't help me. The farm plate lets you go anywhere within a 150 mile radius. That's probably enough for me, but maybe not for some. Historic plate restricts you "to and from parades and shows". A recent...
I dressed her up and drove her in our "Christmas in the Village" lighted Christmas parade. I was hoping for a couple of feet of snow, but that might have limited other participants :D. I did have a snowmobile trail groomer right behind me....
