My ‘85 M998 w/6.2 has been experiencing a parasitic draw. Inconvenient but not terribly detrimental yet. The troubleshooting to narrow down the culprit is as follows:
-disconnect neg battery terminal of aft battery.
-Set multimeter to the 10A setting, making sure the leads are in the appropriate...
So due to some other threads I've been following I've decided to switch over to Pennzoil 75w90 GL-4. Apparently GL-5 oil is bad for standard tranny's because it eats softer metals such as syncros.
Mine does as well. A friend of mine who used to rebuild trans says it's probably worn synchromesh. When I gear up I double clutch and it usually gets past the grinding. On the way down sometimes it won't even go into 3rd. At some point I'm just going to bite the bullet and pull the sucker and...
Grounds, grounds, grounds. The majority of electrical issues on this truck can be solved by making sure the grounds are clean and in good repair. If the problem persists, use the troubleshooting guide and a multi-meter to isolate the hiccup. When turn signals go afoul it's usually the box or...
The heaters in these things are very under engineered for sure. You'd think a vehicle that suffers from chronic overheating issues would produce nuclear heat, but it doesn't. I flushed my cooling system out really well and all sorts of junk came out. I pulled the heater core and rigged up a...
Common mistake, apparently. The little arrow opposite the handle is the actual position indicator, not the handle itself. The venting ties into the engine via the deep ford CDR valve, and from what I've heard if the system is kept on 'deep ford' for too long you run the risk of blowing seals.
LoL this is copied/pasted right out of the operator's manual. Dude certainly wasn't doing anyone any favours by possibly burning out a $500 starter just to say it runs.
CAUTION
If ambient temperature is above 0°F (-18°C), do not operate starter continuously for more than 20 seconds;
wait 10...
The new boxes are overly fragile for their application in a purpose-built military vehicle (IMO), and some say keep using the old clunk box until it dies. Weak batteries and power surges will kill the new ones. Sometimes they just stop working properly for unknown reasons. It's solid state...
Mine measures 84.5" and will not fit through my garage door. If I take it in for extended maint I just remove the stack. Copper antiseize on the bolts is a wonderful thing.
I found when I converted my tranny to synthetic it started leaking where it didn't before, especially through the modulator O-ring. From what I've heard this is a common occurrence with synthetics.
