I believe I read that spin on filters do not have fuel/water separator or a heating element like the factory one? Not sure, but if so then I have no intentions of installing a spin on. Speaking of that I need to get around to changing my fuel filter :|
One short I had that was keeping my truck from starting for awhile was a melted, grounded diode behind the air cleaner that made the short on and off, confusing the **** out of me. Not sure if this will help, but good luck :beer:

When I got my truck there was some stuff wrong...
Starter relay was bypassed with an ignition switch which sparked and shocked everytime it was used...yeah that was replaced quickly
Fuses were missing, diodes were melted, fusible links about to blow, battery cables...

from 2hi to 4hi there have been no issues the way its been going, everything has engaged just fine
but I did like you said and tried in neutral, stopped into 4Lo and still grinding
also, its not a 'clunk' that would kinda make senses, its an unpleasant grinding that...

Hey everybody, my M1009 is the first 4x4 I have owned so I need a little advice on what might be wrong or what I am doing wrong
To shift into 4x4 I have been finding a level spot, shifting the truck into Neutral, locking my hubs, and then shifting into 4HI, and backing up 10 feet before driving...
