I have a 6.5kw 2 cylinder air cooled onan nhd. The manual states not to lap the interference valves (45° seat angle and 44° valve angle)
Is there any harm to lapping them and whats the reason? I noticed older manuals for this same block only suggest avoiding lapping rather than stating flat...
For clarity, it would be helpful if you posted the part number you're referencing. If I understand you right you are talking about part #8 in the screen shot below from the 003 parts manual. I bought that part (governor ball joint end) for my 003, (NSN 2910-00-829-5701) BALL JOINT part...
That's great that you can run your whole house on 5000 watts but for most people a 5k will just barely get you by during an outage but you have to be pretty stingy with the amps. I had to move to the 10k cause a 5k isn't really a whole house set.
And to your other point, when Uncle Sam finally sells off all the 002 and 003's, they will transition into selling off the newer and quieter liquid cooled 5 and 10kw sets.
I have been watching GL for over a year at the base that is close to me, and they seem to come in fits and spurts. For a while, they were only getting a few sets every auction and the final sales price was way to high. Then around last fall or so, a large batch of about fifty 002 & 003's...
I get what you are saying, and agree with you for the most part. I am not trying to make this run "quietly", just quieter. Look at the pictures below. I plan on adding the insulation to not only the fan end metal but the "close to run" door and housing, the motor cover (cylinder shroud cover)...
Yea, I' taking about lining the interior sheet metal of a non ASK machine. Seems like 99% of the noise would be coming from the motor end.
When it gets a little warmer, I need to pull my injectors. Since I will have to remove most of the metal to do that, I was thinking I might as well give...
I was wondering if any one has lined the inside of the sheet metal engine/fan/louver box enclosure of their 002 or 003 with automotive sound attenuating insulation. I have been looking at at roll of 1/8" thick, self stick, foil faced. I was thinking if you covered every possible inch of the...
I have seen a lot of commercial diesel sets, housed in a building, use a short piece of flex pipe between the set and the fixed exhaust, which is usually schedule 10 or 40 black pipe. Depending on the proximity to the surroundings, many are insulated as well.
Remove the muffler and watch the two heads. The one with all the white smoke will be the bad one.
Oh, and don't do this when your neighbors may be sleeping...
