Who says a m1009 cant HAUL

I added a transmission cooler and flat tow a M151. Even towed a 18 ft trailer with a M151 (trailer has brakes) with no problem. Also installed a class III/IV hitch. I've towed at one time 400 miles one way but the most important thing to remember is safety and not over drive your vehicle or load.

    Starter brackets are different

Found out the hard way so I thought I'd pass it on. 27MT starter, 1113591, direct drive, uses bracket 14028931. Not available at dealers but still out there. Hillbillywizard, anntenaclimber, and others have some. 28MT starter, 1047961, gear reduction, uses bracket 23502557. Available at dealers.

Yes the solenoid clicks to. Have a bracket ordered and see what happens but will carry a bar and socket and a hammer with me till I know it's fixed. Thank goodness for the free towing on the insurance. Thanks all for your help.

My starter has the heat shield and starter bracket missing. Anyone have an idea where I might find them. I guess I'll carry around a rubber hammer if I get broke down again. Thanks for the responses.

    M1009 won't start

Doghead mod had already been done. Wire is in good shape. Both the original starter and the new starter still work. After I replaced the starter the truck would start. Pulled a M151 about 278 miles and it would start for about 3 weeks no problem. Then no start. Pull the starter and put it right...

    M1009 won't start

My 86 M1009 has died twice on me now. Turn the key, glow plugs warm up, turn to start, starter relay clicks, but no starter. Batteries are good, tested at auto shop, 900 CCA each, Voltage at the starter when key in start. Still 24 volt starter. Engine ground cleaned, even ran jumper from...

Splicing in Trailer Light Connector into the existing trailer light connector

Maybe a different approach but I removed the trailer connector on the vehicle, soldered in three additional wires for brakes, reverse light, and battery charge. Then used a plug that is like the one on the truck to for the new three wires to make it look factory. Since a MV trailer plug only...
