I have both....the Deuce is more of a bear to drive. A lot of pre-trip inspection, loud, slow and no power steering.
The 5 ton takes up a lot of room but it's a dream with power steering, air brakes etc. I used to drive 5 tons in the Army, so they are a bit more familiar to me.

I did get both the Deuce and 5 ton registered and insured about a year ago. The 5 ton is registered as an Antique Auto.....yes it does have restrictions but I pay about 60 bucks a year for insurance. I also pay the same on the Deuce. I had to make a couple of trips to the insurance co. with pics...
The Deuce handles great at slow speeds, a little work to get into tight spots, dreadfully slow, and rides rough. It's extremely rugged! Don't expect to hold any conversations with passengers though, the exhaust is LOUD!
The brakes do work well, but don't expect it to out-brake the vette...
Im going to be home (Limestone) for vacation in January. I have both. Give me a PM if you are interested in looking at a 5 ton. I also worked on them for years in the Army. Worked on the Deuce in the late 90's. I have a pretty good handle on maintenance for both.
Be sure to take about an hour to go through the -10 manual. Go over the operations under normal conditions and you will be well informed. You'd be surprised how many operators never used the manual when the truck was in Uncle Sam's fleet! It will save you some time and trouble. CONGRATS!
U bet! Great project for "Family Time!" Can't wait until I rope a few family members in on a project or two! Many years ago my wife and I made a deal. We would alternate weekends between horses and hot rods. I haven't forgotten that to this day!:carnac:
