Fuel lines along frame rail are dry. Fuel filter base is dry. I think there may be a leak at the lift pump. There is a good amount of wet gook down there. Someone earlier mentioned that a problem with the pump would cause cavitation. I guess this may be the cause of that terrible squirrel noise...
Turns out there IS a pinhole leak on the bottom of the fuel tank. I could not find the source before because it was obscured by fuel being blown around all over the bottom of the tank while driving. I wondered why I couldn't find a wet spot around the edge of the tank leading upwards. It's...
I plan to get into it tomorrow. Yes, it's Thanksgiving, but without much family here I don't have plans until the evening.
Unfortunately I was unable to find a fuel sending unit today. I called several Napa's, and the O'Reilly's here that has a distribution warehouse, and none of them had it...
Firefox thanks for the tip. My starter (original) is firmly in place with the bracket attached. I have not experienced any difficulty in that neighborhood. The hard starts I'm having are due to improper air/ fuel mixture. The engine is starved of fuel when attempting to start when the engine is...
So, first I need to apologize for not having thoroughly searched. I am in a bind and humbly ask for assistance with my issue. I am working 12 hr days, do not have a day off ther than thanksgiving for a couple of weeks, and only have access to Internet though my iPhone during business hours.

A German made fuel line that does not require clamps was recommended to me. It was cheap so I bought it. I haven't yet had the need to replace fuel line and am not all that familiar with Tygon. If it works for you, awesome. I have heard that the Dorman replacement kit is prone to failure, so I...
I have a fuel leak coming from the fuel return line on the injector - driver side closest to the fire wall. I have ordered new fuel line from ebay to replace them all. Until that arrives, will I do any harm by trimming the offending line? I have read that the length of line is important.
Remove the blue wire entirely and replace. Blue 12 gauge fusible link wire is available at NAPA. Part #785856.
There is a sticky at the top of the CUCV forum that has a lot of information on fusible links. Check it out and be informed.
The latest development in my long and annoying saga of starter trouble is the awful grinding noise that has just begun to occur when starting my m1009. I have not yet removed the torque converter cover to inspect the flywheel for damage, but I would not be surprised to find gnarled or missing...
Nice truck! I routinely drive past a fire station in Franklin, TN where I believe they have a m1008 or 28 as a brush truck. Its hard to tell from the road because of all the chrome that has been added to it. I've been meaning to stop by and ask if I could check it out. I will post pictures when...
Are you sure it really drank that much fuel over 40 miles? Gasser K5's get better mileage than that. Maybe your fuel gauge is off? I know mine is less than reliable, as are many others.
Have you been keeping record of your fuel consumption to track mileage?
I drive 65 mph or so on the...
Why bother bypassing? The Service Lights on/ off switch is one the coolest built in features these trucks have! Inform your guest drivers how to operate the truck, or use a label maker and post directions right on the dash.
Welcome to SS! There are several CUCV owners in the area. I have an 84 M1009 that I use as my DD. A lot of parts are interchangeable with regular square body Chevy trucks. I go to the Pullapart in west Nashville and the Express pullnsave in Smyrna every once in a while and find all kinds of...
Absolutely correct. I forgot to mention it. The a/c and non-a/c heater cores are different.
A heater core can be rebuilt. Some are too far gone, but there are others around that just need to be flushed and maybe have a leak fixed. I would rather do this than rely on an inefficient aluminum...
