Just wondering if a SS member had bought my Uncle's 1952 M38A1 "Marine Jeep" with M116 trailer. I think it sold on ebay back in 2004-ish. This was before I got into MVs.
The buyer I think was from New York. The seller was George Doody in Saco, Me.
I know its a Marine Jeep because I once...
This came today from Saturn Surplus, its an air horn solenoid. It came in a sealed foil pouch and the solenoid was wrapped in desiccant. This sucker has been completely unspoiled by oxygen and moisture.
I'd say the paint that was used on the solenoid back in 1953 is a spot on match to...
I'd like to order stencils for restoring my M105 to its original 1967 glory but I'm confused about the serial number. On the data plate the serial number's second character has a dash, but instead of a dash the Army painted on a "S"
Which second character should be painted on for a 1967...
I've been cleaning up this worm gear with rust evaporator and bead blasting. Its still got some pitting but I'd like to put it back together and get some life out of it. What do you guys think?
This seems to be a good way to hold a tire in place to paint both sides of a rim. The tire won't stand up on its own but you just need to gently lean the rubber with a board against something. Its easy to rotate the tire to get at hard-to-reach areas.
Note, for masking I just brushed on dish...
I'd like to publicly give Airbornebandsman positive feedback for the serious crate he put together to ship a winch kit and spare spool from Las Vegas to Maine. The crate traveled coast-to-coast and then some because it was routed near LA from Vegas before turning northeast. I added up the...
Anyone know approximately when or if Rockwell stopped producing new air shift T-136-27s? I've seen one advertised as "built in 2006" and "not a rebuild". Were they really still making them new into the 2000s?
Last week I joined my brother to move his stuff from Ft. Campbell to Ft. Sill. Whereas I didn't actually get to drive a MV on this trip I was able to take lots of pictures of them. Please bear with me as I get the pics uploaded.
I almost soiled myself today. Earlier this afternoon I was outside sandblasting the rims of a couple used but good condition tires I had bought from a guy up near the old Loring AFB. For the sandblasting I had set the regulator on the air compressor to 110 PSI.
After the blasting was done I...
Figured the Alternate Fuels forum is a good home for this.
This 5mb PDF document is a study on multifuel combustion in both spark plug and compression based multifuel engines. It covers the M.A.N. combustion chamber from which the LD-427 and 465 family engines are derived.
Interesting to note...
LABORATORY EVALUATION OF MULTIVISCOSITY-GRADE
ENGINE OILS IN U.S. ARMY DIESEL ENGINES
Report Date May 1981
Interesting find, they tested a variety of oils and simulated a 20K mile/210 hour workload on LD/LDT-465s. I had to split up the PDF to keep it under the upload limit. A lot of it is...
I came across this manual while working through my own starter woes. Thought it might be helpful to others with the same starter. The pictures are better quality then any TM I've seen.

Anybody know what model trailer these beds belong to? Looks like a M101 variant, for generators maybe? Note the tracks on the bed floor, and the extra reinforcement in the front is throwing my identification off.
Edit: Looks like there's a step/standing spot behind the wheel well too.
Finally took the plunge and got a mig welder two weeks ago, after playing around a little bit this was my first attempt at patching a rust hole. The project was the driver's side fender.
Of course everything got a bit more complicated once you got into cutting the metal. I originally thought...
Well, I set out today to flush and remove the radiator so I could refab a new shroud that runs along the bottom of it. Bad news is I didn't expect the radiator bolts to shear off and well, the the bottom radiator frame doesn't look all that great either. Is this radiator toast or is it worth...
My wonderful sister-in-law went to pick up a towbar at Ft Campbell for for me this morning, she lives just a couple miles off base. Normally my brother would help out but he's in Afghanistan. Anywho, I had talked to Mike from GL there last week who said helping her load a towbar into my SIL's...
Wondering what you guys think of the damage here. I plan to rotate the flywheel for a more thorough inspection when my better half gets home tomorrow. Thanks...
Got home from Drum several hours ago after picking up a sweet 62' Atlantis Electronics Corp M105A2. It must be a rebuild because its in such good shape with a few A1 and A2 features and fiberglass racks. The body appears galvanized, but I understand that might be a rust proofing.
The wife and...
Background: I won a M109A3 last Oct 1st at GL auction. The truck was advertised as "Truck Did Start" then inspected and started by my brother on base at Ft. Campbell. It looked in decent "drivable" condition before the auction. :D
Fast Forward to the week before Xmas when the EUC cleared...
