Thanks for clearing that up Kurt. It was a pleasure meeting you the other day.
If I remember correctly you mentioned that it was rated for approx 15,000 lbs. Does anyone know if there is anyway to find out for sure what the rating is?
I picked up a hydraulic winch for my M818 on Saturday. Thank you Kurt Anderson (BigJuice69).
This winch came off a 5-ton wrecker and I believe it's rated for 15,000 lbs. My initial thought was to extend my front bumper and mount it there. But this thing is huge and heavy and a more central...
I know someone on SS has been selling a kit for the Multi-fuel engine in the M35A2 and some 5-tons that uses a 12-volt alternator aside of the 24-volt power. Anyone know if there's a kit like this available yet for the NHC-250?
Great thread.
I'm short at only 5'7" so the seat adjustment works just fine for me. But I hate how the brake pedal is so far up off the floor compared to the accelerator pedal. Lowering it would make reaction time quicker when in a panic braking situation.
Thanks for showing us how to...
Hundy, are you all done modifying this truck or are you still going to figure out a spare tire mount and crane system? I'm anxious to see what you come up with.
Hundy, I wish I had your time and facilities to work on my M818. I have my Unimog 404 drop-side bed (~10ft long x ~7ft wide) ready to go on the back frame, just can't find time to get it done.
How much do you anticipate the rear tires will articulate upward when on uneven surfaces as compared...
I replaced the fuel filter drain petcock on mine since it was leaking and I suspected this might be the reason my M818 wasn't starting. As per instructions I opened the fuel drain at the IP and began pumping the primer. Fuel came out immediately. I pumped it a few more times to make sure it...
Very helpful post Hombre.
Thank you Doghead. I'm crossing my fingers that once I do this my fueling problem will be solved.
One more observation from yesterday I forgot to mention in my last post. When the clutch pedal is depressed the linkage is pressing down on the rubber fuel...
What a great idea!!
So today I used duct tape to cover the fuel filler neck on the right tank and pressurized the tank using a small compressor that plugs into a cigarette lighter. I repeated this test on the left tank. I found fuel leaking at the fuel filter drain petcock. A friend stuck...
Thanks for all the help guys. I haven't had a chance to get to the truck but I'm headed out there today.
Just one more quick question: What are the symptoms of a faulty control box. I know these are prone to fail in the Cummins-powered 5-tons. I'm going to try and check the fuel lines first...
Great story.
A friend recently told me one similar about troubleshooting an electrical problem in his house. After spending a lot of frustrating time trying to figure it out, it ended up being a simple loose connection at the switch.
