Pawnshop, one thing I noted was the use of the Napa 4309 base, which is a 1-12 thread. If you had used the 4770 base with it's 1-14 thread, the number of spin-on fuel filters available to use in terms of size, nominal micron, physical size and water drain would have about tripled (i.e. from...
These are called dynamic balancers, and DBs work as well as or better than static balancers (i.e. wheel weights).
There's lots of things you can use to dynamically balance tires and wheels. Other very common and very cheap dynamic balancers include but are not limited to:
- antifreeze
-...
Thanks for the response and really thanks for the offer! My son and I might take you up on it!
I've been looking at the 10SSGA thread, UP is about 1 1/2 hours or so further than Kennesaw for us, so Kennesaw will be a lot easier to go to (i.e. a one day trip; UP would probably be an...
Having never been to one of these, how many mil-vehicles can my son and I expect to see? Any chance to ride or drive or is this strictly a static display.
Thanks,
Al
You guys are going to get me in trouble with my wife if she finds out I'm looking at mil-vehicles!
There's an Army base not too far away that has at least seven M916s coming up for auction.
If any of you out-of-towners want me to go look at them, let me know. I don't know M916s very well, if...
I see that Surplus Center has a 24 vdc 1/4 hp motor for $40; a decent GM-syle power steering pump should cost about the same. So, you're ahead $$$ instead of a dedicated integrated electrical fuel pump (~$140 cheapest I could find and it was 12 vdc, not 24 vdc.
Smallest pulley will depend on...
Medic, correct. Several of the "balancing media" sites will explain it better than I can, and some have videos, but they all pretty much work the same.
Dynamic balancers work better than static balancers (i.e. lead wheel weights) IMO, primarily due to the fact that the DBs can change with...
Centramatics work and work very well, I have them on my '06 PSD F-350 SRW.
However, having said that, I wouldn't have spent the $200 on them had I known how well antifreeze works as a tire/wheel dynamic balancer. I use antifreeze in my Toyota 4runner rock crawler/expedition vehicle and in my...
I went by Tracy City last April. The yard outside TC was pretty much empty, all the vehicles gone, no parts, couldn't see much of the building but it appeared to be empty also.
No offense but the statement in bold above is an excellent example of how myths get started. And like a lot of your statements on Grade 8 vs. Grade 5 (& A325) it is a myth.
Here's why:
ASTM is the American Society of Testing Materials, the premier standards organization for most industrial...
I disagree with some of your points, as discussed below:
- Grade 8 bolts are not "too" hard, nor are they prone to failure due to "shock" loads. A g8 is more "brittle" than a g5, but only after it reaches yield. A g5 will bend to yield (i.e. permanent deformation - not good) and break well...
Sceptor is shutting down civilian sales of their plastic MFC (Military Fuel Can) due to CARB regulations coming into effect some time in the future for all of the US.
If you find a source, buy what you can. Try Brigade Quartermaster (actiongear.com) and other 4x4 shops.
For the MWCs...
I'm having a Super Swamper tire sidewall fixed as we speak, should be able to pick it up today.
The truck tire place that is doing ONLY does OTR tires, his shop is full of them. He's doing my (relatively) small tire only as a favor and it barely fits into his machine.
So, he's not an idiot...
I have the Amsoil BK-11 single filter mount; right now it's on it's third vehicle. For my PSD F-350, I use the EaPB-100 bypass filter, which is the mid sized BP filter that Amsoil has. I use the Oilguard oil filter and oil filler caps to interface with the 6.0l engine.
Bypass filters work and...
Here's a study on fuel lubricity additives. Hands down, B2 bio showed the best improvement to adding lubricity to diesel fuel.
The .jpg is the summary, the .pdf is the 10 page or so detailed test report.
I got this from TheDieselPlace.com, poster/tester's name is "Spicer".
Enjoy.
All this because a freight company couldn't or wouldn't get their act together and haul this thing home as they agreed to.
I'd be burning their name on every board I could.
Good luck getting your 5 ton home safely.
Al
Sam Werner's place in Tracy City, TN is the closest place I know of. Drive into Tracy City from the south on Hwy 41 and it's just before the elementary school, you can't miss it. Call first 'cause he appears to be closed a lot. Make sure to make nice with his dogs - rumor is that he chases...
