I have thought about the hydraulics, but I'm gonna have to do a little more planning first. Man Spicergear Velvet looks BA! I have always loved the M715! The meanest looking vehicle stock! If I read your build right it looks like you had a front and rear PTO winch? I also did'nt see any pics of...
Oh ya, there will be some added bracing. We always make sure to pull from a posisiton where we arent pulling "down" on the frame or suspension. Do you think a Garwood off a duece with a snatchblock would be a good idea?
I've got an M1008 and am in the process of getting parts to convert it over to the M1031's NP 205 transfer case with PTO. The plan is to use this setup for a rear drag winch. Has anybody else done anything along these lines? I know electric winch's are cheaper and all that. I've already got a...
As far as idle times go, during Operation Iraq Freedom we didnt shut our M1031 off for 4 days. Not a place where you want to chance a no start situation. The Humvee's did the same. All were 6.2 diesels.
Looks like a sweet deal to me! And I know exactly what you mean as far as working on a dirty truck. After being an Army mech and working on muddy, dusty equipment while laying in the mud and dust, I vowed to never do that again! Now I've got a nice heated and cooled shop. Life is good!
I've got full coverage on my CUCV. I use Armed Forces Ins and they asked me what the value of the truck was, I told them that I had around 10k in it. They asked for pics and I emailed them. She called me back later that afternoon and said that it would'nt be a problem for that much, which really...
No vehicle collisions but I've nailed two deer since my front bumper/winch install. 5" square tubing with 1/4" thick walls and we rienforced the CUCV grill gaurd. First deer was the night after the install, small doe and I had enough time to slow it down to around 5mph. The second deer was...
Well we finally got around to knocking out the engine swap. Pretty straight forward. Since this was a new GM crate motor it didnt have brackets or pulleys. That was the only hard part. We were unable to reuse the 12v 6.2 starter, power steering pump, flex plate, torque converter and several...
External cooler and gauge are a must. Cheap insurance. I bypassed my factory cooler and ran an external Hayden in front of the radiator. Derale deep tranny pan with cooling tubes and an Autometer tranny temp guage hooked into the pressure port on the drivers side of the tranny. This way I know...
Tranny cooler is a must. An external tranny cooler made all the difference in the world. After installing my tranny temp gauge I was suprised at how hot the tranny would get, even with the factory cooler. Just slightly slipping it offroad in high side it would jump up over 200 degrees. Once it...
Napa sells a kit that will check and see if hydrocarbons are getting into your coolant. I had one radiator start leaking on me. Bought a new one and a week later it started leaking. Cap tested good so I was worried about a shot headgasket. Went to Napa and bought the kit (I dont have a part #...
Well we started the project Friday night and it went pretty good. Had the old motor out in a little over 2 hours. Of course our junkyard was closed for the weekend so it put everything on hold. We will be hitting it up tommorow to get all the pulleys and brackets that we need and hopefully get...
My boss bought his M1008 with 44,000 miles 2 years ago. Did some reading on here and saw this post, checked his balancer and it was really bad. Changed it out. He put about a thousand miles on it and pulling out of the drive way something let loose. I'm pretty sure its the crank. Who knows how...
Sweet setup 11Echo! How do you like the big block? If this small block swap goes good I've got a feeling my 6.2 will get swapped with a big block later this summer. Nothing wrong with my diesel but I live in the only "hilly" region of Kansas and even towing my 1500lb trailer and 1500lb Arctic...
Ya it would! He's already converted it to 12v and right now we dont have the time to try and make it work, although it would be pretty sweet! We picked up the manifolds and some brackets at the junkyard last night. The carb, manifold and other stuff showed up yesterday to, The motor should be...
coyote_hunter, couldnt I just use the pink wire to the injector pump as my power in for the distributer? Thats how I had it planned out in my head anyway.
