I decided to change the filter to see if it change the harsh shifting my TH400 had. It was never bad enough to bother me, but it was a noticeable 'clunk' between gears. I read somewhere this can be caused by a dirty filter. A new filter from napa comes with an o-ring, pan gasket, and filter for...
Run it to operating temperature with the radiator cap off, might have air in the system. Sounds like a cap issue though, it sounds like its not working. Should be holding around 16 PSI, might try a different one and see what happens.
My truck is a 12 volt system, results may be a little different. I'm running two 700CCA batteries from wal-mart wired in parallel.
Yesterday it was -12, I don't usually plug in since its not a daily driver. Was curious to see if it would start. The direct drive starter couldn't overcome...
That's all fine. I'm very confident in my knowledge of the inner workings of axles. That and I'm not stupid enough to shift out of 4wd going up hill, especially in winter conditions. Good luck in the future.
Kingpin spring is what creates preload on the steering knuckle. The springs are constantly compressed and get shorter over time which is no good. The preload is supposed to allow the knucke to rotate after 25 foot pounds has been applied to it. Probably too much info than you need though...
Tell me about it. For some reason, whoever did the 12 volt conversion on this truck...deleted the passenger alternator and left the drivers side on instead. I have to take the alternator off just to get a good spot for leverage when tightening the power steering belt. Its a pain to try and do...
Check bolts holding steering box to frame, tighten them. With someone watching the steering box, move your wheel from lock to lock. The steering box should NOT move. A little play is too much.
Check bolts holding steering block to axle, tighten them.
Check pitman arm, tighten it.
Check...
What? You have hub selectors because of gear oil? Umm... No. The wheels are spinning freely without the hubs locked in, hubs locked in engages the axle shafts. Now you have axle shafts, differential, and drive shaft being spun causing drag. The only way I can think of that can feasibly cause you...
Bypassing the resistors won't hurt anything, resupplying the glow plugs with 12 volts from the nearby junction block is a good modification. I disconnected the left side of the resistor bank. Then I cut the wire from the right side of the resistors to keep the fusible link and ran that to the...
Right. Super swamper TSL's are an excellent ice/snow tire for Alaska :-|
After the first few times, you learn what not to do. I go slow and do just fine.
Take care of your trailer brakes, test them before you haul something. A guy I know totaled two rigs from flipping his trailer this summer. Trailer started fish tailing, the trailer brakes failed completely, slammed against the hitch, and snapped the pintle. It was hanging by the chains when it...
It isn't hard to turn as far as the steering wheel feel. You have to adjust and re-learn your driving style when in 4 wheel drive. If you give it too much throttle cornering sharply, it will chatter and pop and not want to turn because its trying to regulate both wheel speeds. If I let off the...
Looks like a trac loc limited slip to me. An open carrier is more round if that makes sense. An open carrier looks very similar, easy mistake to make I suppose.

Its in the faq.
The M1008 has a Dana 60 front axle open and Corporate 14 bolt rear axle with 4.56 gears, detroit locker.
The M1028 has a Dana 60 front axle with limited slip and Corporate 14 bolt rear axle with 4.56 gears, detroit locker.
I would at least offer some of his money back. He's...
Blue book isn't going to list CUCV's, going to have to go by the normal K5 price on blue book classic. Most likely works out better this way, I would imagine the extra equipment CUCV's were designed to have raises the price! My M1028 is registered as a reconstructed K30. It was hit by a trailer...
I'm running walmart batteries too, no problems there. Always make sure all your battery connections are tight! This gets me all the time, stuff loosens and causes all kinds of weird issues.
I had a lot of problems starting, I used to have to cycle the plugs 3-4 times to start. I went through...
The oil filter adapter has a paper gasket and o-rings between itself and the block. I've had oil leaks from there. Napa sells a small block oil filter adapter to engine block mounting kit, comes with all the paper gaskets and o-rings.
Could also be the valve cover gasket, or loose valve cover...
