Howdy,
I've got an M1123 Humvee with the 4L80E. Fighting a weird issue where the Transmission basically free wheels in reverse (meaning it feels like it's in neutral) but only after driving for at least 30 minutes or so. The longer I drive and the faster I go the worse the condition gets. A...
Hi Coug, fortunately I don't think the pump is leaking, just a bit noisy and kind of weak. Effectively having the remote reservoir setup is probably already doing the same process you described since the pump must be constantly be getting a supply of fluid from the big container on top of the...
Hello, I keep it in the site glass. I do have some spillage at the top of the reservoir where the rotating vent cap connects to the large bolt. Its a bit annoying but since this is not a pressurized part of the system I know its not contributing to my issues. Also take into account that I off...
Hello all,
I noticed recently that my PS was getting noisy especially while off roading as well as becoming hard to turn at full lock or when in a jam on the trail. Upon inspection I noticed that my steering box was leaking out of the cover and possibly near the output shaft.
Long story but I...
Hahaha she is actually leak free believe it or not. But yes as I said no big deal. I am sure a little noise comes through when messing with any electrical component. Once again I don't really know much about electrical but you can't learn if you never ask or try.
Yepper. So far so good, paranoid now that my box is cooking GPs but so far these plugs are starting the truck right up without issue. I did a little multimeter test to see if any of my electronics were making the box act funny.
I did see very tiny jumps in the voltage on the leads when messing...
Thanks for the advice guys. Pulled injector 2, 3, and 4 (going from front to back on the driver side of the motor) and blew compressed air in through the glowplug hole. Nothing but soot.... So in other words the motor definitely ate the shards. Current glowplugs looked brand new so I have no...
I was having bad cold start issues and even though the GlowPlugs ohmed out as good I decided to take them out and replace with the Wellman plugs....
Needless to say I was shocked. Definitely don't trust your multimeter!
Also I should state that I verified my smart start box is functioning as it...
Yep, big reservoir, not overfilled but I do wheel my Humvee so it gets some pretty extreme angles. That part is not designed to leak, you are thinking of the vent hose.
Howdy Folks!
Just wondering if anyone knows part numbers on the o-rings within the power steering reservoir vent cap.
There should be a larger one for where the cal screws into the reservoir and then I think a smaller one for where the rotating vent mechanism is held into the cap via snap...
Another update:
Started checking over other suspect electrical components. Thought maybe the cold advance solenoid could be bad. Seems as if the switch is doing its job and supplying 24v when engine is cold according to my multimeter, also clear that the solenoid itself is getting power.
I...

Yep, all 8 ohmed out at under 7 and all 8 leads are supplying ample power. Not to mention I just changed them all about a week ago thinking the same thing. I am wondering if the cold advance solenoid has something to do with this. White smoke to me definitely indicated its getting good fuel too...
Really at a loss with this one.
Tested all the electrical stuff and it looks perfect yet my Humvee is very difficult to start. Doesn't seem temperature dependent.
So more than likely fuel issue. What tests do you recommend I perform next? What's common failure points in the fuel system...
Update:
Ohm out all plugs, they are within spec about 4-6.5 ohms was what I was constantly getting.
Decided to get somewhat creative and ran a wire from the 24v negative battery post to the neg probe on my voltmeter. Then I struck the pos prob onto each glowplug lead and tested individually...
This is interesting. Not sure why I ended up with the wrong temp control for KDS and not the Nartron all this time. I just ordered the correct one though from Hummer parts guy so we will see if that does anything. Thanks for the info!
I didn't get around to it today but I will probably ohm out the plugs tomorrow just because its easy and might as well. Did the voltmeter on the batts with the wait light on and saw a slight drop, maybe less than half a volt. IDK if that is normal or indicative that not all glow plugs are...
I figured that may be the case with the new boxes. I just replaced all glow plugs thinking the same thing so that is probably not the issue. One thing I am thinking is maybe my batteries are just bad. Idk but seems logical the box would behave like normal but not have the power to warm the plugs...
