    Looking at a Backhoe?

I have much the same machine. I have had it for almost 20 years. If you are good with tools and have some common sense( Which seams to be not so common these days) the tractor will be ok for you. Ford-New Holland dealers have all of the usual pieces for this machine. Any tractor entering...

    Dumper at work again

HI ALL, The dump on mine goes almost verticle as well. I work for large excavating outfit, none of the 20 or so dumpers we have at work will get the body as high(close to vert.) as the M51 and such. Ed.

questions about 5 tons. 24 to 12 volt

snow plow pump works just fine on 24 volts. duty cycle on a plow pump is at most 10%, usually closer to 2%. shouldn't be a problem. just don't buy a lift for a nine foot meyers and expect it to lift a 12 foot gledhill. my plow is going into it's 12th season this year, I havn't burned out a...

    Pist!

don't try to weld cast aluminum, to much dirt in the metal, makes for a lousy mess of a weld. jb weld or use bondo 'tigerhair'. tigerhair is increadible stuff. i've fixed cracked gearboxes with it. as long as the part has no torque on it. works on rotted oil pans and gas tanks too.

    250 cummims help

OK, what you need is an engine manual for the 800 series. I was fortunate enough to have a Korea/ Nam era mt mechanic for a neighbor. he had all of the books. Now he is gone, and so are the books, I wish I could give you the gov. publication number for the good engine manual for the 250 ...

Anyone selling 5-ton transfer case parts?

There is a big outfit in Montana that always has them for sale . I can't remember their name, but they usually have a full page ad in the publication 'Rock and Dirt', a trade paper for excavation and mining. Hopefully someone else here can come up with a name. Shipping from montana has to be...

Oil Lines for a 250/855 turbo upgrade?

get oil from same point as gauge sender. put tee in block at that point,i think it's 1/8 pipe size. don't turn up the fuel unless you have a pyrometer and know enough to believe it. a 250 will cook(cook as in 'bad', not cook as in 'hey baby, it's smokin') with extra fuel, as the oil cooled...

    V.I.N.stamped in frame?

I need to know if there is a stamped vin on the frame of my 1968 m51. The tag on the dash is too corroded to get a good copy of the numbers by rubbing,it is just barely readable, if you know what the numbers are. Is there a stamped location on the frame for the vin? thanks.

    M54 Bobed ready to roll

RE: M54 Bobed duce ready to roll Very nice looking unit. Do you have some pics of the rear axle detail? Pardon my ignorance if this post is a piece at the end of a long string of articles, I usually don't look at the deuce pages. This page caught my eye because I never heard of a m54...

http://www.steelsoldiers.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=7985 I needed a PTO for mine a few years back, found one at the Red Ball show in Gilbert ,Pa. Some ole suthern boy had a few. Wanted around $400 for them, new in oiled paper. I think I still have his business card...

    14:00-24 or 16:00-24 tires?

New Volvo roadgrader at work has 16x24 michelin's on it. I don't know what the speed rating is, but I can get it going 52 mph on a good straight section of fourlane. Tread is beefy but doesn't make as much noise as you would expect. No clue to price, but I can guess six would cost as much as a...

new to 5 ton trucks need some advice

From experience, driving a military dump 100 miles a day,day in and out, will make you ; 1) deaf 2) saddle sore 3) parking brake handle shy (this one takes some explaining) Over the road, the better deal would be to get an old mack or an autocar, same money, easier to get parts for, more trips...

    XM817 PTO

Bad mojo to have output turning at all times. Pto for dump is nasty expensive , (if you can find one). Ask me why the front crossmember on my m51 has a big rip right where I hang the hook for the winch.

    Bigger Sand Blaster

How does one blast with 'snad'? (sorry,I couldn't resist it.) Seroiusly, a pressure pot is what pros use, and for good reason. The little syphon units are only useful for spot blasting,if you already have a pressure feed unit, try a bigger nozzle, I use a 3/16"nozzle, some times a 1/4"...

New Batts for the 5 ton

4 group 31 batteries fit kind of tight in my M51, if the 800 series has the same battery box, should'nt be a problem.

Any one put a turbo on the 250 cummins?

I put a turbo on mine. Not a hard job if you can build some intake manifold parts. Muffler is now on top of fender. Air cleaner is right in front of the muffler. Get ALL of the exhaust plumbing from your donor engine. If you want details of intake piping, PM me.
