After action report...
Woke up to the genset still running nicely at 530am. Found power was on in the neighborhood so shut her down. The exhaust flap was a touch oily looking. Running lightly loaded for 8 hours began to wet stack the genset. I’ll load it good this week and clean her out with a...
Upstate, Albany, NY.
FIRST major power outtage while awake since i moved here in 2012. Excellent and first real world test of the genset.
Ugly storm rolled thru approx 8:40pm eastern. High winds, heavy rain. Lost cable ‘tv’, then lost power 1 minute later. SOMEHOW we still have internet...
I can only say, i’d love to see a generac go 10,000 hours or more between overhauls. With synthetic oil after break in, and proper maintanance, i bet u could get 15k hours before a complete overhaul (new genset) .
A gamble is getting a genset from auction. What you are describing sounds like a messed up genset someone else already reviewed and decided against messing with.
Please don’t take it thr wrong way.... I’d PASS.
With a solargizer panel on top of the genset. I bought mine on ebay. There were two sizes. I regret not purchasing the larger of the two. But it keeps my two walmart batteries topped off just fine. Plus load tests every three months or so helps. And starting once or twice for a half hour between...
Honestly, 5’ from your house isn’t a great idea. My 802 is approx. 21’ from my home, no windows on that side, and that makes for an optimal situation. I would not want it any closer. Luckily, i have no homes near by to consider.
I have read here that it’s best to keep these gensets a min...
I mentioned i had this heater a few times i think. Its actually what i also paid for it. Great price, great heater. I have had it up since last fall. It’s GREAT to give my mep-802a a workout. I use it monthly to work out the genset.
If anyone is on the fence, DON’T be, just go buy it. I got...
I searched the net and found there is no federal perameter for #1 diesel for certain ratios of diesel to kero. I also read that the military has approx 4-5 classes of winter blend diesel, the first of which i read was 70/30 diesel kero. So technically, if it were #2, i’d add very roughly 1.5 gal...

Flexible universal stainless radiator hose. That may be an answer for your hose issues. No clue about the radiator. Are the 802/3 radiators purpose specific to our gensets only?
Has anyone had an issue starting their 802 or 803? My 002a started much harder than my 802. In real cold weather, i’d have to hold the preheat for a solid minute. When i tested my 802 the other day, it was 21°f and i held preheat for 20 seconds and honestly it didn’t even need it.
With all this talk about storms, and cold weather, i put a pint of kero in a full 5 gal tank on my 802, along with 2 oz of power service white bottle. Ran it for half an hour.
I’m only at 5 gal of reserve or so left in my diesel caddy. I have to top off, and treat it as well. Never topped off...
Mine also came from fort drum last spring. 22 hours on it. Mint, non-rebuild. Spray painted on the side was military police stuff. Also, no heater. I’m pretty sure the ones with cold weather kits come from Alaska. Just a guess.
You won’t find one at an affordable price, like others said. You would be best to snipe the gp and gl sites and wait for a genset to show up with one already built in.
I can certainly understand why you would want one though, being where u are from. Good luck.
