Safer setup. If you're pulling a lot of amps, you can slag down battery terminals. I have seen golf carts puddle the terminals on top of the batteries, especially if a connection is slightly dirty.
This way you are making 2 banks of 24 volts, and running them in parallel. You end up with 2...
RE: I am Back from LA
I figured those would be shot. I hate to say this, but scrapping them would be the best thing. You could salvage front axle housings from the deuces, but the diffs will be shot more than likely.
I doubt there is a good engine in the bunch.
All the tandems I drove had power dividers in the front chunk. This gives a differential action between the front and rear tandems to keep tire scrub down but still allow all 4 wheels to pull. When you pulled the power divider lockout cable, it locked the front and rear tandems together. This...
I would wonder if the front chunk is gone because of pan clearance. Of course, they may have pulled the transfer case out to allow a larger engine/tranny to fit under the hood.
If the stock deuce rears are still there, you have some good parts. Doors might be OK. Depending on what engine and...
You must be seeing something I don't. The truck still has the hood on it, he is starting to part it out.
There is some surface rust on my truck's injection lines, pretty much not a problem.
I still can't get over a $3000 tow bill!
RE: Duece looking
I think deuces are the best bang for the buck right now. They are the cheapest MV to buy, if you price them by the pound!
I bought 13500# of deuce for $3000! That's about $.22/lb. The most expensive is the Mule. Mules generally cost more than deuces.
Parts are easy to find...
Before I would buy a Chinese hydraulic head, I would buy the injection pump, lines, and injectors that are on E-Bay right now.

When I pull out stuck forklifts or tractors, I get as close as possible (usually 6' or so). Choke off low on the stuck vehicle as possible. This way, when you tighten up on the chain or strap, you transfer weight from the stuck vehicle to the deuce. This also picks up on the stuck vehicle...
I'd probably come down Monteagle in 3rd gear, just watch your RPM. Judiciously apply the brakes to slow down to 1800 rpm, let it creep back up to 2500, brake again. My deuce will engine brake on a pretty steep grade as long as I stay in 3rd gear.
Pull the oil filler caps and see if there is a bunch of whitish gunk on the bottom side of the cap. Also, you can look into the valve area and see if there is any residual water and rust. Pull the engine dipstick and look for the same thing. Look at the oil drain plug and see if it has been...
The pyro gauge is the important thing. I picked mine up on E-Bay for $35, look under aircraft parts. They use a standard "K" thermocouple, also available on E-Bay. I think my t-couple was $15, then the fitting was $5. Sometimes you will find kits for sale at good prices.
As you can see, even though we are from different interest groups (MV's vs. Tractor Pulling) there is definately some common interest! We would all like to hear how you have built the motor, and what issues you may have had. I am amazed at the rpm and hp you are getting out of the old multifuel.
Life in the slow lane!
Bunch of perverts, wanting to this person in the nude..........
Remember, there is a 50% chance this person is the wrong gender............
The reason we are so interested in RPM is that the military governed these engines to either 2600 or 2800, depending on year. There has been a lot of speculation as to what the tractor companies rated the engines at. I think a lot of the listers would re-adjust their governors a couple of...
