    12.5 MPG in a Deuce?

I get my used motor oil from an ambulance service. 15W40 from diesel engines. I run it through a 5 micron bag filter that has a 50 micron filter inside as a pre-filter (McMaster Carr specials). I pick up a drum or 2 a month.

    12.5 MPG in a Deuce?

If you're getting 12.28, you are already way above what i would expect for a deuce. Losing the extra rear axle helps! I get 10 to 10.5 at 2100 rpm, de-splined front flanges and the interaxle shaft removed, 1100R20 singled radials. If I run at 2500 rpm, I get around 9.5. I have run 25% and 50%...

    Weight of stock tires...

The tires feel like they weigh 50 pounds each or so. Where are you getting them? Any other sizes available?

    12.5 MPG in a Deuce?

Taller OD, lower RPM, more throttle needed to maintain speed, less power, lugging.....engine damage...... Mine is OK like it is. I would like another gear between 3rd and 4th, but the OD ratio is OK by me. These things aren't built for speed, and 1mpg is not much of a savings to me, I only log...

    clutchless shifting?

The reason for the "start in first gear" rule dates back to the old sprag transfer cases. 1st and reverse actuate the sprag shift rod to select the correct sprag set. 1st gear eliminates lugging on hills. I seldom use first on level ground, just ease out in second. I used to drive a worn out IHC...

    HMMWV question

The material is called SMC, Sheet Molding Compound. It is a resin impregnated fiberglass or carbon fiber reinforced material that comes on rolls. A "charge pattern" is cut, and placed inside a mold in a large press. The press closes down, on a HMMV hood it would probably take a 750 ton press or...

Goodyear 395/85 MVTs VS. Michelin 14:00 XLs on Bobbed Deuce

What you have is a wide lock ring wheel. No problem to change tires, just need a duckbill sledge and some sweat. I'll bet tubes and flaps aren't cheap.....

    DISCUSSION - Slobbering Multifuel Cure?

The end result will be 5" round diamond plate protrusion sticking out of the grill approximately 1/2". It's not a big change but it also ain't standard military. So, put the bridge plate over it.

    USA6x6 Products and company

I agree on the issue of testing welds. A test fixture would be a fairly straight forward item to build, and not too expensive. If you have had issues with leaking welds in the past, you should be checking 100% of all wheels you build. I have been in engineering in general industrial and...

    Behind the bumper chain lockers...

I am leaning towards removing the pioneer rack and building a toolbox to fit there. I know deuces are supposed to have the rack, but I don't see myself needing it.

If you own an M35 you need this!

RE: Re: RE: Re: RE: from 6x6 to 6x2 You will not have any issues running one unlocked rear wheel. You actually could have more issues if you unlocked both sides of a rear diff. If one axle has a tad more resistance to free rotation, it will stop turning. Then your spider gears would be...

    Diablo Build Update (pics)

90% of the work is done in 10% of the time. The last 10% (the details) takes 90% of the time. You are building a really nice truck, and your attention to details is going to really pay off with the finished product. You are showing admirable restraint, I always get it running, then never quite...

    5ton radiator in a deuce?

RE: 5ton radiator in a duece? If it is the multifuel radiator, it might fit, although the grille looks wider on the 5 tons. Pull yours out and compare it to the 5 ton. Easiest way to find out.

I am no longer deuceless...includes pics

Clinto One thing about deuces, you need to allow more stopping room. I always try to hang back a few deuce lengths from whatever is in front of me. Normally not much of a problem, with the deuces acceleration and top speed......

    Redstone Arsenal

I've picked up at Redstone (I have canned engines for Wallew and DRat). The trip is about 3 hours each way for me. The engines weigh about 800# in the can, according to the stencils. I don't know if they will load onto a pickup, and the can would probably not fit between the fender wells. I...
