If you use the A3 axle with cucv wheels then height should be the same. Then you get the extra width of the A3 axle, which I like. I feel like the A3 axles width will help with its road manners as it is a big box that sits up high.
I think it's doable. Last night I measured the a3 chassis with hmmwv tires and the bed. It looks like you will have to take a little metal out of the outside of the "wheel well" that is built into the body. It would be easy to make a small flare out of angle aluminum and rivet it on. The...
After five years or better of wanting to do this it looks like I am on track to start this project finally. I have located a 887 bed. It needs some work. Door latches are rusty, back end has some dents and one door hinge has the rod missing. Now my dilemma is what to put it on. I have a...
Anyone know what the width of the beds frame rails are for a m35 or a 5 ton? Thinking of picking up a bed to build a trailer. Would the beds frame be too narrow to build a deckover trailer?
Could be an M100 axle but, it is definitely not a M416 axle. Could be that it is a civilian trailer axle and hitch casting. Bantam T3 and other civilian versions used a casting that was not for use with a lunette. If the axle does not have brakes then that may be the case. Civilian trailers...
Cast brackets at the springs are not designed for this function and will eventually break. What they are designed to do is unbolt at that cast bracket and fold the tongue up for space saving, i.e. shipping.
The frames are welded together. Are these frames heat treated?? It is just a small simple trailer if you think about it. Most commercial trailers are much bigger & longer and are just mild steal welded up with no heat treatment.
I haven't decided for sure if I will do any bracing. Gonna...
Hooked the suburban to it yesterday. So far it's starting to come out. I need to pull the chains off so I can run my string down the side and see where I am at. I may need to move my chains in a little closer to the major part of the bend. As you get away from that part the bend was more...
I am going to try to hook to it with my 3/4 ton suburban today and see if that works. It's already chained to a tree. And the sledgehammer may get brought out if needed. Torch will definitely be needed for final adjustments at a minimum. Where the fork hit it there is a significant dent that...
I hoped to not have to pull the bed. But that will be my next attempt. With the bed on I can see right where it should be due to undercoating.
How bad was yours doghead?
So I picked up a nice "looking" M101A3 from LeJuene. Darn thing has had a forklift ram into the frame right at the rear spring hanger and has bent the frame over an 1" or 2". It pushed the other side frame rail over a little as well. My first attempt to fix was chain it to a tree an hook my...
I think as mentioned above it is the Miller XMT300 or the Ramrod. I have heard there two different units in different trucks. I didn't know that the cucv could not weld without one of those units so that was good to know.
Would a miller bobcat fit in place of the M887's Hobart unit? That...
Just thinking about the differences between the two trucks and was wondering about the pros vs cons of the different welders. Anyone on here operated both? As far as trucks go I'd rather have the cucv. But what welder system would you rather have?
