You should both try and remember your on a HMMWV forum.
At one point in time it was all about people restoring them.
Not long ago the board was hijacked by a bunch of recent HMMWV owners that no longer care about keeping things original.
until the day comes that the technical manual section has...
Personal choice . I tend to try and keep it all original as it will hold it's value in my book. You can always get a set of half doors or just take the doors off.
In the end it comes down to " It's Your Truck"
But try and remember 2 things
Once you buy it you will never be done spending money...
Sorry can't help with the install but you may find that swap to be a bit more then you bargained for.
There are a lot of things you will need for that swap.
6.5 a little easier then turbo.
I think you will need to make room for the turbo. may have to cut out a little metal under dog house and...
back when trucks were rare parts were cheap. now trucks cheap parts rare. X doors used to be 150 -200 per door now if you can find them expect to pay 500- 750 per door.
If you see doors with up down sliders in them there OEM. Camper type is total aftermarket.
I'm not up on pricing like RWH of some of the other guys .
but it wouldn't be too far fetched to say your going to be looking at North of 12K just for slant back parts.
Most people don't want to spend the time to source the OEM doors.
Most trucks out of gov. auctions aren't sold with anything that can be equated with armor.
Hence the first Gen X doors to the new severely armored doors don't come with the truck.
Buying a truck from a private party you may find...
What he said.
The 6.2 is quieter. that's one of the ways you can tell without looking.
If I was going to do it all again I would has bought one with a 6.5 4l80 in it already but that wasn't an option when I got mine.
A slant back top is composed of many pieces this is true. but it isn't something you want to do very often. Nor do you want to do it by yourself. Yes it can me done with a chain hoist or lifting straps but you will have to have access to both the space and equipment for that.
It's not like a...
No offence but the city seems to have their priorities screwed up.
If the look of the truck is scary then it might also be a deterrent to the bad guys.
Funny you keep saying Texas is different then Cali. I'd think Texas of all places wouldn't give a hoot what the people think.
They seem more...
Before I spent a penny I'd find out about registration in your state.
Every state is different laws are changing all over the place .
Are you handy with a wrench?
Because you can save yourself a lot of money if you can do your own work.
Most of the material used in banks, gas stations , DMV's is plastic of some nature. ( its about 2" thick)
You might be able to fit it into a X door window frame some how but the window would be fixed not able to slide down.
Yes you could probably take some AR500 and skin a set of original X...
search and rescue different then using it as a raid vehicle. I believe that is what your original post said.
if a department vehicle probably could qualify for surplus military stuff. not so easy with civilian owned .
That and the liability issue if involved in an accident or other unforeseen...
A lot of us have made our own stuff but none of us have decided we trust it enough to sit behind it while somebody shoots at us.
The aluminum armor normally fit the body parts around the door. Not going to help much if you don't have the armored doors.
Is this your personal vehicle? What's the...
It's common. congratulations you just bought a High Maintenance Money Wasting Vehicle ( HMMWV for short).
Get your self a set of TM's or check out the TM section .
Start doing your maintenance procedures.
If it's just a cracked boot you can replace it.
if it's an 88 and that's an original boot...
Didn't the second generation X door have a skin on the outside hiding the X .
I like how they don't show the door from the inside.
Strange I think you can find real original X doors for less if you look hard enough.
