The bushing had spun out and was badly scored on the outside on the exhaust end. This tells me it was spinning freely in the case. I recognized the oilite material, I use it in my conveyor chain here at work. The compressor wheel was rubbing just enough to remove the oil and soot from the...
Bjorn- If you can send me the TM I would appreciate it. You can e-mail it to me at: rmiller@hl-a.net
Jones- Is the TM for the turbo included on the military issue CD?
I don't mind lock rings. Any decent truck stop can handle the lock rings, since trailers in intermodal service still run 10:00x20 lock ring wheels. I would carry an extra tube if you run 11:00R20's, they are not always that common in truck stops.
I had to jump all over my brakes a while back at 45 mph. Locked the rears without trying to. The fronts did not lock. I consider the brakes to be as good as the old dump trucks I used to drive.
I agree with the issue of single circuit brakes. That is a really bad feeling when the pedal hits the...
I have seen pics of god looking deuces on GL. Then you go look, and the tranny and T-case are missing, along with all the drive shafts. If you can't inspect, get someone who can for you.
The TM number is:
TM9-2990-201-40 and P. I cannot access LOGSA at the moment. If anyone can check and see if it is there and download it to the tech section, I would appreciate it.
Mangus....Hint Hint Hint
If not, maybe one of you in the Service could post a copy......
I pulled mine apart today. Nothing to it. The bronze bushing had started to turn in the turbo bore. By the looks of things, this is the weak spot on this turbo design. The bushing is only held in on relatively small area on each end of the bushing. Because the drive end will get hotter than the...

Went to swap my C turbo to Marksgarage for his D. Got mine off and found the bearings were worn to the point the compressor impeller was polishing the housing. Luckily, my spare engine in the can (LDT 465 1D) turned out to have an excellent C turbo on it. Go figure, the depot boys must just...
Actually, if the bearing race spins on the spindle, it will weld itself on. I have had to cut the races into 3 or 4 pieces with a torch and chisel the pieces off the spindle. Then, chuck the spindle in a lathe and true it up.
Of course, by then the spindle is usually weakened enough that it...
You really need to find a parts truck and pull off all the goodies. Little things like the drain back tube, oil line, etc.
The turbo's are not too uncommon. I see them on E-Bay periodically.
Probably the main expense would be the exhaust system.....
I'll drill my manifold tomorrow, since my truck will be down for a few days. I'm going to eventually install a EGT and Boost gauge setup.
Bjorn
Where did you tap the intake for the boost gauge?
