" Transportation needs" is a good section. This, however is a little different. What we need is a map showing all members, along with their vehicles. This way we could route things from one member to the other across country. If we all lived within 100 miles of another member, it would be a...
Installing the 5 ton cab and sheetmatal would be similar to what the street rodders are doing. I have seen several old B61 Mack cabs and clips mounted on Superduty Ford Chassis, or Chevy C-30 stuff. Gives you the look of the old military rig, but modern disc brakes, engine, tranny, steering, AC...
If you are going to be camping, etc. There is no real reason to change engines. Just leave the driveline stock. If you are into a 4x6 truck with a big engine, find a wrecked tractor of your choice and install a 5 ton cab and front sheetmetal. That would probably be easier than doing all the mods...
Whew! Washington state is as far away as you can go and still be in CONUS!
We are all definately going to have to come up with a "coast to coast" network to get big stuff across country.
6V53's are supposed to be a good fit. You set the engine forward to clear the steering, so you would have room for a longer tranny. You can make the 6V scream if you do it right.
Here are some pics from when I picked up the truck. Since, I have added troop seats and a muffler.
I have actually thought about narrowing the bed, but that is a lot of work.
JR, I got a set already, when the forum went down I lost all my contacts! But thanks anyway!
I have you down for one if I get them I am willing to pay up to $200 for a good frame. I would like a complete unit, but I think the RI units will go higher than I can afford, with a 900 mile distance...
That is a pain in the rear. It is much easier to pull the engine and get the crank out that way. I pulled a dozer crank one time, Jeez! You have to pull the tranny, clutch, flywheel, and everything needed to remove the front cover. Then you have to catch the damned thing when gravity takes over...
Dave has had his truck for several years, and he is a die hard MV'er. His son is a walking encyclopedia of MV's!
You can never have enough spare tires.
As I have said in other posts, if you are happy, it was a good deal.
Mine had just had all hoses replaced before i bought it, including the short hoses on the heads. The guy I bought it from said they were the most aggravating hoses to do.
I drive mine at least once a week back and forth to work. I usually stop at the grocery store on the way home. I have had a couple of USMC and Army vets ask to crawl in the cab.
Bringer Back Of Memories!
You will like the singles. I do agree with Kenny, duals look good. If I get a "round tuit" and build some 10" wheels, I will try some of the wider radials. Until then, the 1100R20's are fine.
I have looked at modifying my truck a little to make the track look better. I think I am going to...
Put a heater core in an early '90's Mustang. I think they hung the core on a wire and built the car around it.
About a 12 hour job.
I've heard changing the transfer case on a deuce will make you hate life.
Yeah. Imagine, a brand new hoist unit, with a brand new, complete, medium towbar.
Be still my beating heart.
Let's try not to bid against each other on these, there will probably be enough competition as there is.
