I was/am preparing a mep016a for my daughter to use as a backup generator. The set is new to me but after cleaning the fuel system it started right up. The carb wasn't set right and it ran for a couple of minutes at 45hz before I got it steady at 60hz. I don't know if this stressed the voltage...
Dead simple. Go to:
www.dieselplace.com
A lot of discussion on it there ... and pics. Mind you, it is all civvy stuff but that is where you are headed with the Willys anyway.

To give you a kind of baseline for mileage, my 86 2wd suburban with 700r4, 4.10 and a normally aspirated 6.5 get 22 on the freeway at 65mph using the cruise control. Around town, it is in the 12-14 range. I calibrated the odometer and speedometer using the freeway mileage markers over a long...
Re: UH OH
Unless they've been scavenged, I'll bet they will start right up. Good catch *and* good price. Check the oil. If clear, it was probably prepped for storage and is in pretty good shape. Man, I wish I had the sound enclosure for my mep0003a.

Jeff, the manuals can be downloaded and are in the tech manuals section; look under resources. The manuals are TM5-6115-585-12 and TM5-6115-585-34. I thought the -24p was there as well but didn't see it.
If you can't find the gasket, RTV should work.

Re: RE: Carb Float Material in Mil Std Engines?
Not to be too negative but I tried sanding ... just opens the pores and it swells up again. I even tried to seal the float, after sanding, with POR gas tank sealer, that didn't work for long either. I think the only solution is to relieve the...
Re: RE: Carb Float Material in Mil Std Engines?
Except that their floats are the same crappy material and will do exactly the same thing. Been there, done that. Unfortunately it is not the answer.

Don't know from personal experience but *many* people in diesel fora have said that using starting fluid is one of the best ways to majorly damage your engine ... unless you are *sure* your glowplugs cannot glow (i.e. are disconnected). YMMV;-)

I don't know about the wiper harness from a CUCV but on the civvy side there is a module (about 2.5x6 inches, with heatsink) that the standard harness plugs into that makes the wipers intermittent. It sits just under the steering column. My suburban didn't have it and I put one from the junkyard...
As I understand it (caveat emptor!), the torque converters for gas and diesel engines have very different stall speeds. If your 4l80e still has the diesel torque converter, perhaps it is causing shifts in the wrong power bands.

Re: RE: MEP15A 1.5 KW carb "issues"
I agree. My 3kw genset does exactly that. The float absorbs gas and swells enough to stick. Tried a new carb from Saturn, did the same thing. I think the float material is *not* compatible with ethanol laced gas. Tried to seal the float with some gas tank...
Re: RE: Need starter for the 4A084-3 10 kw genset
Other than originality, why wouldn't a 12v starter be a better choice anyway? Unless the genset has a built-in charger.

I wonder about the size comparison too. Anybody know?
In the civilian world, the 6.2 engine had 2 different brackets depending on whether the starter was the old style or the smaller gear-drive style. The Chev dealer can furnish either (<$3 for old style, somewhat more for the new style).

I'm glad that you found it somewhat helpful even tho it didn't have the detail you were looking for. Knowing very-little-to-nothing about IP's, the IP sections seemed fairly complete to me. For example, the section on IP calibration is over 30 pages long with fairly explicit directions. Good...
Don't know if this is what you are looking for or not but the TM9-2815-237-34 tech manual has a large section on repairing and calibrating the fuel injection pump. It can be found here in the resources section under tech manuals. Good luck.

Re: Lost by a more aggressive bidder
Nobody was let down on this! You put in a reasonable bid and it got topped. End of story. I am all in favor of bidding up to the max reasonable level (however that is defined) but if someone wants it beyond that point, well good on them. I do appreciate all...
I have had continuing problems with sticking float in my 4a032. The fuel causes the float to swell and then it sticks (both open and closed) against the side of the float bowl. Good luck.
