That is a very nice M-43 to start with. You have most of the major parts. The missing bits and pieces can be picked up when you start to reassemble it.
For now you just need to get into the garage and start disassembling it so you can restore it.
You'll need lots of plastic bags and markers to...
JPG is correct about current availability. These are very common plugs and easily available from many different sources.
My preferred source is American Component Supply in Greenville, SC.
I use a 90 degree plug on my unit because it is mounted in the bed on the side of my truck.
My wife and I go to the shows mainly for the little kids. The smiles on their faces when they get to climb into the truck (front and back) is priceless. Plus, getting to tell their parents not to worry because it is an "Army Truck" not a Corvette or Jag just makes it better.
I have never won an...
I'm looking for information to contact anyone who might be organizing MVs for the Bothell, WA 4th of July Parade.
The member who organized it in the past, has moved to Portland and does not know if anyone has taken his place.
If someone has taken on this task, could you please post a notice of...
Well, I found the adjustment procedure from the manual (TM9-1826A). I've tried posting the scan, but I can't get a readable copy to post (it is way to small to read.
I'll PM you with my direct email address so you can send me your email address and I'll just send it to you directly.
It's not a...
Here are some photos of the wrench and the interior of the governor unit.
I've got to go find the manual and copy the pages that pertain to the adjustment of the governor.
I'll post those when I find them. I thought I already had copies on the computer, but I guess not.
Good Luck with your...
It is actually a two part system for adjustment.
There is a special wrench that is used for the nut, together with a screwdriver for the screw. I have pictures of the wrench and I also have the manual which has a photo of the governor assembly.
Unfortunately, I am at work and the information...
Flight Line or Fire truck would be my guess.
Decades ago I knew a guy who had a truck that came straight from the military painted International Orange. We always figured it was a Flight Line truck; maybe part of a crash crew.
I'll be interested in some actual facts, not guesses.
The newer ones (RAK-30) are 30 Amp units, I believe. That's more than my little truck can generate.
If you find a bunch of RAK-15's, I would sure appreciate knowing about it.
According to my aircraft spec sheet (24-28VDC) 12 or 14 gauge should be just fine. The stock military cord for it is 14/2 (2 ea 24 ga wire).
Mine is hooked up with the stock military plug (3 prong female 12-14 gauge) and it works great.
Get the manual (it's online) and it will show you...
Big commercial truck parts warehouses may also have them (the industrial district of larger cities). Ask if they have Budd wheel parts (you'll probably have to talk to the old guys).
Gunny, I was in the Army from '68 to '71 and we still had M37's and M43's. I saw lots of combat wheels on these...
I'm 64 (almost 65) and still working on, and driving, my M37 / M42.
Since it is the only pickup truck I've ever owned, i guess I just don't know any better. I've owned it for 36 years and restored it twice (once to get it running dependably and once because I wore it out). It now looks much...
Those tags on the firewall (the ones with the rounded corners) are from the plant that made the body tubs. I'm not sure if they were a separate division, company or what. Similar, I believe, to all the old Lincoln - Continental being "Body by Fisher" (yeah, I'm old).
Those tags were just for...
I've had my truck for 36 years (only pick-up truck I've ever owned).
Parts used to be a lot easier (and cheaper) to find.
The usual suspects (Midwest Military, VPW, etc.) are the places to start looking. Another gentleman on here (Karl Kosterman) just got a set of M-42 Canvas from New Life...
The bows are the same.
The kit is composed of a different piece of front and back cargo bed canvas and an additional piece of windowed canvas for each side of the bed. There is also a table that attaches to the bed side rails.
There is a map light reel that attaches to the wooden bed bows and...

Here are some photos of my truck with the Command Kit installed, if you are interested in seeing what it looks like in the real world.
