Small update. Replaced the turn signal lever (probably a good idea anyway given the CUCV motto) and it turns out that the very easily accessible dimmer switch is the likely culprit. Part on order. I'll put it in tomorrow and report back.
In other news, lower rad hose and freeze plug heaters...
Not sure what's holding that on then. Did you hit it with the Chevy tool and maybe a little heat? Undo the remaining screw for starters. I've worked on lots of hubs, and can't see how that is staying on unless adhesive was used. Weird.
The wires came off really clean and easy, and I'm good at not being sloppy when it comes to wiring, although inside the switch could be fried inside. Not sure. Can't be sure. Still looking for ideas. Till now, I'll keep it disconnected until I deal with my lighting issue and get my block and...
The blue wire, second to the left here below, is the one I tapped into with a momentary switch to complete a ground when I pushed it in as intended.

Did the doghead mod today. Very easy. Some of the wires looked like they needed freshening up, so probably a good thing. Don't know how much difference it will make, but I'll take all of yours' words on it.
Started up just fine, so I'm assuming I didn't bungle anything. Thanks Doghead.
Tapped into the ground wire from the glow plug harness blue wire to the momentary switch and then a ground wire to a ground.
When I started the vehicle, looking at the voltmeter, it did not want to kick back up to green, as if it was still charging the glow plugs. Shut er down, tried again...
I think I gained some insight (no pun intended) into this problem tonight. Was coming back from a pheasant hunt and pulled into the gas station. Went to start her up and no lights at all. Peaked at the fuse box and the 30amp was fried. Parked her, then began a nice 10:30pm walk to see if I...
It's the actual pull in rod/wiper arm that is broken. For all I know, the switch could be good. I wonder if I could just bypass the column and install a manual high beam switch?
Anyone have part numbers? I need to drop in one and will probably go with a magnetic oil pan heater as well.
Ordered a freeze plug heater and a lower rad hose heater. After install, I'll post if the parts were correct.
Except in my case the pull towards you bright lights plastic thingie is broke. I'm stuck on high. I can't believe for an 80's vehicle there isn't a floorboard high beam. I've got an '89 F250, and that is on the floor. Were they trying to thing beyond their time?
More crap in the steering...
Did the kingpin springs and cups. Also did the steering stop (replaced with a tad longer small thread 3/8" bolt so the driver's tire would not hit the steering arm). Tomorrow gets new bearings, races, and seals on the bottom of the steering knuckle, a new steering stabilizer, as well as a new...
