Care to do a little writeup of the install in another thread? I've been contemplating doing this as well for the reasons you mention. Could be really helpful for others as well.
I live at 8000'. We have already had -15 temps and over 100" of snow this year. I'm glad my CUCV is plugged in. Like I have posted before, the freeze plug heater and the lower radiator hose heater are doing a great job. Today I'll actually be able to unlock the hubs. It's balmy.
I actually keep a 3/4" drive impact behind the seat that runs off of the slave plug. Plus a bunch of other junk. And I too have run my 1028 out of fuel. PITA. There's a post about it somewhere.
Was 15 below here the other night. Yesterday morning the CUCV just would not start. Plugged it in (with the low rad heater and freeze plug block heater) and it fired right up this morning at around zero. Very happy with the setup so far.
I live in a region that gets between 300-500 inches of snow per year. It's common for my hubs to be locked for 5-6 months straight. I've run BFG AT's in the past for years, and find that they do OK when newish, but harden up and loose grip quite quickly after that, especially the higher ply...
Good luck. Make sure you check all the fluid levels before trying to start it.
It's been cold here too. Single digits last night, big cold front coming tonight which will likely put us below zero as well. My main street is ice and snowpack already.
I keep mine at 55, but I'm rolling on 36" which helps a lot. I might have hit 60ish on the uncalibrated speedo, but like you said, it's something I try to avoid.
Can someone describe how it is supposed to work for reference? This is my daily driver, and I've needed the hazards a couple of times, but I'm at the point of just retardation. I need this truck without flashing right now. I just need a point of reference to troubleshoot from. I'll cut a...
RRG. Blowing 30amp fuses again. Twice last night. In a 100% whiteout, in 6" of snow at the top of a sick mountain pass, at night, towing a trailer. I almost died last night. Changed the fuse, and it lasted 5 minutes. I was sitting bait without my flashers. Almost got rearended by a semi...
Granted my brain is fried from hunting all day in knee deep snow, but I can't get the hazards to switch off. Yes I read the Operator's Manual. Any help? The cover with the spring just pops out and in, but I can't get the lights off.
Ah, I missed the missing fusable link issue. It would be great if there was a Painless Wiring CUCV kit. I'd install it in a minute. It's not like we need a whole lot.
