you wouldn't need the OD kit, because the 5th gear in the spicer already HAS an OD gear.
If you REALLY wanted a taller OD gear, then you could do both, but MY Cat3116 wouldn't have the balls to push a truck along with gearing that tall. It barely climbs the hill leading up to my house with the...
Remarkably, my 109 is registered as a 1985 for THAT VERY REASON :)
Of course, due to the Byzantine Registry rules in the Commiewealth of MA, I ended up registering it as a camper, so no jackwagon could complain about a 15,000 pound vehicle parked at a residence. RV's are CDL and weight limit...
The bridgestones that came with my truck lasted me 88,000, and if I hadn't had a toe-in problem, they might have lasted a while longer.
I bought Michelin LTX-II's, and my wallet is about 1100.00 lighter after the 4 of them, mount/balance/tax/alignment
I like the michelins on this truck, but...

Thanks for the wiring tips!
at the risk of a double negative - the wife is less not on board with the 1009, which WILL fit in my outside garage, than the 109a4 I already have, which will not :p
I may end up with it, we'll see. Snow is coming here tonight and tomorrow, which is going to make a...
appointment to see it tomorrow.
other than the high odometer, the biggest drawback is civi green paint instead of OD.
Just found out it has an electric winch that fits in the rear receiver. I hope it is as good as it sounds, because if it is, it will be sitting in my driveway very soon. :)
I'm going to look at an M1009.
It has new batteries >1 year old, new alternators, new starter, 13k on new tires and wheels, it has been painted, so no rot. Replaced seats, replaced column, and good floors. New dual exhaust. Rebuilt THM400 transmission. New front wheel bearings, axle joints...
