I want to fix my radiator because it leaks slightly around the collar of the upper water inlet. Besides that, the welding spots on the right side of that frame around the radiator failed, another thing that needs fixing.
From examining these failed welding spots ("white metal") I would guess...
An easy way to check if this is brake fluid or axle fluid is, of course, the smell test, and removing the inner bolts (towards the pumpkin) of the mud guard. The holes for the bolts are open to the cavity in the axle body. If nothing comes out, poke in the holes with a screwdriver, to remove a...
On older models the VIN can also be stamped on the passenger side to the right of the shock mount (looking straight at it).
On my deuce, this is the case. The VIN was buried under many coats of paint and not easily visible. Don't sand the paint off with a grinder if the VIN isn't visible or...
about less rattley: I noticed that, too. The motor runs quiter with an oil mix.
I always dilute the WMO with a mix of gas / diesel I get for free from gas stations here (leftovers from pumping out tanks from people who put the wrong fuel into their tanks). It filters easier and is generally...
That's interesting and would save a lot of work, as some of us - like me - would have to do it without soldier B.
"stock trans" , does that include a PTO? Is there a source where one could order a new 5th gear drive for the countershaft?
Cheers,
Mark
Not meaning to hijack this thread, but maybe my question could contribute to it's solution. In my transmission, the fifth on the countershaft is also missing a tooth (one). Pulled the missing tooth with a magnet out of the oil, so it's not floating around there anymore. The oil looks and the...
I use WMO that I cut with a diesel/gasoline mix I get for free from gas-stations (what they pump out of people's cars who erranously fill the wrong stuff into their tanks) now for four years and it works great. I could swear that with a higher oil level in the mix the deuce has more power and...
The Me 109 and many other aircraft (P-47 Thunderbolt also comes to my mind) had geared inertia wheels that could be brought to speed by a hand crank. The pilot released a clutch when it reached the right speed and BANG (or not).
I drove VW Beetles (the old ones) for a long time, and had a...
I use a soft ball with a rbf flag attached to it (original F4 Phantom, to keep it mil :-) ).
Also has a nice trajectory when it pops off, because a preoccupied driver forgets to remove it. .-)

Hi Brice,
welcome! Send me your adress via PM and I snail-mail you a CD with all the TMs and even the PM articles and other stuff you need (it's christmas, after all :-D ).
Nice truck, indeed! Is the water purification box empty? I like those, they are nice for camping in warmer times of...
Maybe I'm wrong, but I do seem to recall from studying the T-case that the airshift has the same automatic mechanism for engaging the front wheels. The air-actuated t-case does not give you a full time 6x6 when the air switch is flipped. It merely enables the same sprag clutch. This is the...
Same here. I use two normal 70 Ah 12V car batteries for 5 years now. Don't even know the brand. Summer and winter, never had a problem.
Like the poster, I build a wooden rack into the battery case, so the smaller batteries sit firmly in there.

Mark
Wherever you mount it, check the length of the defroster cable that operates the diverter, which is kinda short. At least on my setup (I'm up to the same job right now). Don't know if there are various lengths though.

Just out of interest, when the clutch is exposed like on the picture above, can it be measured somehow to determine its wear status?
Maybe this would help in deciding if its time to replace it now or later on.
Cheers,
Mark
Just an idea.
The seat of the bench can be lifted - so if you would make a box with some sheet metal around the legs of the bench you would have a "box bench" with a much larger volume!

Had the same thing here, while I was restoring my deuce and used to idle it a lot while doing so (for using compressed air tools). The effect was accompanied by more smoking.
After a field trip to France - with some miles on the Autobahn - it was cured :-)
