Opinions on Vietnam "period" Correct restoration needed.

I built a Vietnam deuce like that, if you want, you can have a peek into my album here: http://www.steelsoldiers.com/members/roger-wilco-66-albums.html The only thing I would like to change on it are the turn signals / rear lights for the old style types and correct the location of the right...

    Oh my god.....wife posted this

Before buying books, spending money on make-up dinners or other remedies to the problem you might want to consider to change your signature: "I like my wife, but i love my deuce" If my wife would read that - no...... I don't want to think about it......... aua Cheers, Mark

    Ring Mount Information Needed

Ahh, a M49 gun ring is on my list, too. But the chances to get hold of one over here are very dim. I have a collection of contemporary pictures from Vietnam / 60ies and I have only seen M49 gun rings on the trucks, not a single M60. E.g. here (that is one of my favourite pictures, quite...

    Finish it, yeah

Great job, Jose! That truck looks beautiful all over. I'm interested in those amber lights, are they still to be had in Spain? I'm searching for those for ages now and all I could find was a pair of amber 12 Volt sealed beams. Cheers, Mark

    Road trip to Alaska

I was tempted to click on " stop by and have a beer when you pass through", but I see you will take the short route to Alaska. I hope you take a lot of pictures on this adventure and post them here! Cheers, Mark (Germany)

When starting, yell "FIRE IN THE HOLE"

Hehe, a latex glove, that sure is funny :-) I have to give that a try. I use a rbf-tag and a soft ball as exhaust blocker. Doesn't fly very far and doesn't knock anyones brothers dog out when it accidentally (er...) gets a hit.

    oil from exhaust manifold?

I second the statement about prolonged idling; when I worked on my deuce once I let it high-idle for quite a time because I needed compressed air from its tanks. After that I saw the same oilstains, and it was smoking a bit more. I guess if you take it on the street and run it it'll be fine...

    possible deuce turbo problem

Unless it's hot. Then it's the other way around. When oil pressure rises, the turbo slows down. At least on my rig! Cheers, Mark

    Finally happened to me-no brakes

I had the same problem, brake fluid leaking out of the airpack vent line. Sometimes it pays to have a look under the hood! :-D I immediatly changed the airpack against a rebuild unit. I first wanted to repair the old one, but the new one was only slightly more expensive than the kit. After...

    Second Gear

I used to take off in the second gear (with the usual hazzle of it not going in etc), then I did split shifting (low tc + 2nd gear ff), which seemed to be easier on the clutch, and in the meanwhile I discovered that taking off in the first is just fine! ;-) It has become a habit and I don't...

Is there a certain year to look for when buying?

I have the old style parking brake handle in my deuce (not the newer short type without the arresting teeth) and can block the rear axles while driving without load on the bed. Therefore I think when the "parking brake" is poperly serviced and in good condition, it is quite effective. Then I...
