M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

It appears that the connection from the top alternator to the battery vibrated loose, and running in that condition fried the top alternator. OK. While I await a replacement alternator, I charged the upper battery and tried to start. The solenoid chattered. I crawled under the truck and beat...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

Something bad happened to my electric system. New starter & solenoid got the starter working, but the 12V alternator is no longer producing electricity, and I no longer get a WAIT light... I ordered another glowplug controller card from antennaclimber. Hoping it will be a spare, but I'm not...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

Prostate cancer, aggressive. PSA test detected it early enough to fix with surgery alone. I'm a poster child for getting your annual PSA test done. Text-only posters, though. Not the most photogenic person...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

Before I removed the starter, I got one strong solenoid click every time I turned the key. If I tried that a few times, the starter would engage and start the truck. It started like that a few times, then all I got was the strong click. With the guidance above (thanks), I jacked up the frame...

The cable end was solidly connected to the solenoid. 2-3" back from that point, the insulation was gone. As a get-me-home measure, I wrapped it in several layers of electric tape, then got a work call. I'm on my way now to test it. Wish me luck.

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

I spent some more time under the truck, looking. The bad cable runs from the 24V distribution block, forward above the inner fender, under the front battery, under the lower alternator, along the engine block to the starter solenoid. There's a cable clamp conveniently located beneath the lower...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

Leaving the office, the starter solenoid clicks, but no juice to the starter. I crawled under the truck to poke around. The starter battery cable had come out of one of the clamps that hold it in position. I pulled gently on the starter battery cable, to move it back into its clamp, and I got...

30-days post-op blood tests show no detectable cancer! :^) The value of the PSA test has been called into question in the news lately. That test is the only thing that detected my cancer. For me, the PSA test was a huge win. It caught an aggressive cancer early enough that they fixed it with...

    M1010 DUVAC Removal Plan "B"

I have some new information on this. I bought 2 new Battery Tender 800s, one for each battery. They have 3 stages, bulk, absorbtion, and float. The charger's LED goes from red to flashing green to solid green as the battery is topped off. After driving my M1010, when I plug in the chargers...

    Towing power

Some M1009 CUCVs are geared for higher speeds than the other CUCVS, so their top speeds are higher. You have to look at the gearing in the differential. On steep mountain roads, my stock M1010 tops out at 20MPH at full throttle in first gear, without a trailer. Kind of embarrassing... On the...

Broken Axle - Outback ( way outback )

The Pound is down to where this rig costs $150 delivered. 2 20L cans, a NATO spout, and a 2-tube adapter (fuel feed and return). Flea bay. I'm considering it. Does anyone have opinions pro or con?

Broken Axle - Outback ( way outback )

Just to get you out of the woods, you might consider feeding fuel from a temporary fuel tank to your filter, something like a jerry can strapped to your brush guard with a length of fuel hose from that to your filter. If you still have foam in your fuel after that, you know it's not due to the...

M1010 for my daughter the field biologist

I bought 2 Battery Tender 800s, mostly because I've used them for years. They're small & light enough to mount easily. They draw little power, so a long light-weight outdoor extension cord is more than sufficient. If there are better products out there now, I'd be interested in learning about...

Windshield wiper parking problem?? More unusual that your average case!

If both wipers are in the wrong place, I would look first at the bolts that fasten the wiper motor to the firewall. If these are not solidly holding the motor in place, that could cause the symptoms you describe.

Battery Tender Failed I've kept a 0.8 Amp Battery Tender on the front battery forever. I moved it from my previous truck, a C3500 with a 6.5 diesel. Normally the battery tender LED tells the status of the charge. Solid green means the battery is fully charged and the charger is in...

    M1010 DUVAC Removal Plan "B"

I've run Plan B for 12K miles so far. If I had it to do over again, I'd go with 2 12V alternators. The 24V alternator rebuild kit is $650 just for the parts! It's also hard on belts. Some say the 12V and 24V voltage regulators will confuse each other in the Plan B configuration, and not...
