    Insulating the Turbo Doghouse

Lizard skin. It’s a commercial automotive coating. Get the sound deadening AND heat resistant coatings. It’s 2 separate products from the same company. Total thickness of both materials (heat shield over sound barrier) is about 1/4 inch thick. If it was my personal project/vehicle, I would pull...

    Pinging/knocking after injectors!?!

Diesels can’t have to much air for combustion. They actually run on a surplus of air tobegin with. In a diesel, your throttle pedal regulates fuel rates, where at in a gas engine, you regulate air flow via the throttle plate. Diesels don’t have a throttle plate.

    Pinging/knocking after injectors!?!

One had a cracked and leaking fuel pipe connection. Hard starting, black smoke, rough idle, and for $35/injector, the owner thought it was cheep insurance. Yes, I took iff the intake manifold to remove all the injector supply pipes for inspection, cleaning, and to make injector replacement easier

    Pinging/knocking after injectors!?!

The problem is I’m just the mechanic, the owner is already frustrated with the cost involved in it as of now. Plus this thing needs to be up and running in a month. My only available time to work on it is half days on the weekends

    Pinging/knocking after injectors!?!

Yes, this started after injector replacement. It didn’t do this before injector replacement. It was a process over 4 weekends. I used a shop vac with a plastic pipe attachment to vacuum out each intake runner and around the intake runners/valley before and after intake manifold removal, during...

    Pinging/knocking after injectors!?!

After talking with him, he said the injectors are fresh rebuilds and they get them from a third party. In his experience it's been cured by replacing the injection pump and lift pump. If that doesn't fix it, then it's piston slap, rod knock, and/or wrist pin slap. But it's nothing to be...

    Pinging/knocking after injectors!?!

R&Red some injectors on an M998. Got it running. Checked for any leaks at idle. Gave it some throttle. Took my foot off the throttle and it started pinging/knocking loudly. It will only do this off throttle. What in gods green earth is going on here? I vaccumed out each runner on each head...

    M1008 custom build

No it didn't come together. Legal issues (child custody) and other personal issues took president over this build. Sold the truck and all parts.

    2.73 to 2.56 conversion?

I don't know, but you don't have to have shims. Axles like the Ford 9 inch have have internal threaded washers that you screw in or out to make the adjustments you need. In order to have a gear set that actually lasts, you must make sure your pinion depth is correct, gear back lash is with in...

    2.73 to 2.56 conversion?

Honestly, it's not much of a gear difference I doubt you would notice. You need a 4 speed trans with an O/D and a lock up converter.

    Engine hot or not?

Cold for sure. Them manifolds get really fun to work around after the engine comes up to temperature.

Engine oil leak from rear main seal?

Check crank shaft for groove! Over this that seal WILL rub a groove in to the crankshaft. If/when that happens and you develop a leak, you will never get it to fully stop leaking. at that point your looking at a possible crank replacement.

    Deuce turbo ideas

I don't think ether of those turbos would move enough air to be effective. I would look in to somethingoff of a series 60 Detroit, international DT466.

Opening up my own shop, gauging intrest

Just some food for thought, the LSSV is powered by a duramax. And, if coolant and oil stays in the engine, by default water can't get in. Moral of the story, it can be water proofed. Neglect will un water proof it though.

Opening up my own shop, gauging intrest

well again, this is not just HMMWVs we do. It's all military wheeled vehicles. The advantage to the HMMWV specialist is it translates over the the civilian H1. Plus rural VFDs, LEO have former military vehicles and need repair and service as well.

Opening up my own shop, gauging intrest

This is not just HMMWV work we do. It's all wheeled former military vehicles. I personally don't own any military vehicles. But I mod and/or repair cars and trucks all day every day now and still take on side jobs and work on my own vehicles. It's my personal form of therapy.

Opening up my own shop, gauging intrest

It requires a 2.5" body lift minimum to do the duramax conversion. You must also swap the transmission as well. Even used duramax engines are expensive. You don't really want an LB7 due to the non-VGT turbo and the injectors failing. You don't want an LLY ether; the compressor is running at the...
