I have been trying to buy that Otter as well from that dealership since it folded! Drive by it every day from work - sounds like you got more traction that I did =)
He's also got a HMMVW with a cracked block, but nice otherwise, a winched Deuce that's been rotting outside and a piece of armor...
Awesome links srodocker - good education there - thanks! Guess I need a few more of those 15.5 McKisick snatch blocks and cable now to prepare for some of those pulls....never can have too many of them, or steel cable it seems. =)
If I was closer 7Dust, I'd offer to help ya in a second, but FL...
That sucks, sorry to hear and wish you were closer - maybe I have become numb to knowing my trucks need another XXXX, it's just part of the driving the older vehicle experience. Vastly cheaper than driving a newer vehicle after 450k miles on one of them (the F150) One item I have done to offset...
imo - From a maintenance perspective, while the A2 may require more initially, it's easy to do and generally inexpensive. The more modern, computerized drivetrain of the A3 may be nice, until it breaks, then costs could really get uncomfortable.
I'm all for simple and easy to work on. 'Easy' is...
Whoever stole them obviously didn't think it through very well if they were planning on reselling them. These things pop up anywhere in the US or Canada and it'll get noticed by the SS community in short order I'll bet.
Wow, impressive. It took my skinny self every bit of strength I had to dislodge my 6 torque rods from my deuce...looks like the 5ton is even more of a joy to do. =|
I'll second Rodney Feltz - he's where I bought my very nice 395 MVTs for $100 each, and he delivered (7) to me for a nominal fee as well in Florida, since he was heading this way for other business. All were in excellent shape, some even had the flashing across the tread.
wow, thank you! I am not looking forward to dropping my tranny (to do the clutch eventually), but sure am glad you made this guide to make it easier. Thanks!
I went a similar route, except with the cut HEMTT's and full plates that bolt up to the existing bolts in the HEMTT rim. The tires are the 395 Goodyear MVTs and they ride very nicely. You can find the tires for ~$100 each for 75-95% wear and the rims/plates were $260 each for me I believe...
Nice mod - did it myself and can ride the kids around without hearing protection, especially with the top off. My NDTs too leaked a bit, annoyingly so, but it's no longer an issue with the 395s =)
Thank you for resurrecting this excellent guide - was looking for it the other day and could not find it for the PM of the front hubs/brakes this weekend =)
395 MVTs are fantastic - one of the best things I have ever done to my truck. Looked at all the 395s out there and I think the MVTs have the best streetable (i.e. quiet) tread. Have them on mine as well and they ride smoother than the NDTs ever did, as well as being quiet, although quiet is...
You can get the 24v 100w H3 bulbs that fit some of the HF lights for <$3 each online. Here they are for $2.60 each:
H3 100W 24V Halogen Lamp Bulb 24 Volts
Hope that helps, long as you don;t mind waiting a few days for them.

I find it very cool that your neighbors don't really mind you setting up in the Cul de Sac to work on your truck. Why can't I have neighbors like you?
Please take a few pictures if you can (assuming hands aren't too greasy) - getting ready to pull my front hubs for a PM and considering doing...
Brakes are relatively easy - just read the manual about adjusting them as it's a tad different than a car with the feeler gauges.
If you are worried about the weight of those drums/hub combo (it looked heavy to me as well) you can use a tranny jack as a nice removal tool. Makes it a snap...
Getting wet in rain would probably be ok as they are designed to drain - especially with the holes I drilled in them. Submerging them in mud would probably not be a good thing as they'd fill right up with grit, but taking the lenses off is easy and they should survive a good hosing afterward...
<added one more pix>
Plan on using 2 of them for driving, the other 3 for brights. Separate Bosch 12v relays with a resistor for the coil so I don't roast them. Will add a 3rd relay for the floods.
There are 130W H3s available at 24v as well, but they are really pricey....figured 100w is just...
Hey all - Well, decided that it's time to be able to see a little better while driving at night, so time for a few driving lights. These are the cheap HarborFreight lights which can be had for $9.99 (either pair of driving or flood) when they go on sale. They are 12v 55w, but since they use...
