My truck came with 2008 dated steer tires, it was headed for Iraq when they stopped unarmored trucks from entering the country, it then got disposed.
Check the tires, I'd replace that one with the spare, call a tire serive truck if you have too. That will be the best money ever spent if...
I'm sure the US military will work overtime to get rid of them over the next ten years and create a fairy-dust and solar powered hippy truck. They have a near endless revenue stream and can afford to squander billions on junk nobody wants or needs to appease people.
On the other hand, you see...
Sorry, I thought I was speaking english.
Let's break it down into parts:
I had my tac verified by Cat when I had the top end done. ( When I drove my truck into the Caterpillar dealer and had them do the 500 hour service and overhead they attached a reflector to the pully and used a timing...
I had my tac verified by Cat when I had the top end done. 48-50mph is between 2550-2650rpm with max revs of 2925rpm. Mine ran that speed 12 hours a day for five days straight at that rpm with zero problems and used less than a quart of oil.
Still runs wonderfully.
Skip the AK/AR crap, advice from guys who don't own A3's is not useful when deciding to buy an A3. But you will get plenty of it here.
If you buy an A3, you don't need to buy five parts trucks because your truck wont be rubbled out and rotting since "nam. All A3's were rebuilt into A3's in...
They did on my truck, it was sprayed outside by Uncle Sugar, CARC desert tan. They sprayed dents, rust, oil drips, tires, top, bows and decals into the new coat.
Data plate on the engine is the max RPM from Caterpillar. Mine said 2925 and when Cat verified the tac, they revved it to max and it held 2927 rpm.
The Army -10 says 2750 max rpm when operating the truck, my truck has a bolt under the gas pedal that is set to limit things to around...
Plan on 48mph, not 55 or more and you will be ok. I picked up a "running" A3 from Ft. Gillam last year and have enjoyed it ever since. My truck had been prepped for Iraq and then disposed of. It had two brand spanking new steer tires, a new passenger seat and had been given a decent once...
If you bought a truck that starts and runs, ask the GL guys to fire it up and power up the CTIS system and let it air up the tires. If it works it will air them up a bit. If not bring a glad handle air hose with you and air them yourself.
My primary concern would be steer tires as they can...
Awesome, congrats and where are the pictures?
The air buzzer does not go off unless the air bleeds down to a lower level. Mine stays up for weeks. Bleed the tanks of water and rusty scunge soon and see if the tank valves leak by.
They are under the middle of the truck. If you drain them...
I took my A3 in for emissions testing here as well. The major areas of Washington state require it as a way of cheating you out of an extra 20 bucks a year.
The engine will rev only to it's preset limit, it is a mech diesel. I had Caterpillar check mine after I purchased it, the tac was...
I drove my A3 2500 miles home last year.
If they said, "running or driven onto lot" ask them to have it running when you get there. Mine said running and I told them I had to see it start and run when I got there, since the auction was for a running truck. I was quite happy to see my truck...
In a pinch there is an air valve on the firewall that will shut the entire air steering downa nd make it a manual steer truck. Looke like either the hoses leak or the fittings need to be remioved, resealed and reinserted. This is probably in the TM for the truck someplace. If it is a hose...
If you got the A3 in Sparta you should just drive it home. They have nice A3's there for some reason, prolly the army has a major reserve base next door with good maintanence.
Plan on 50mph and 12 hours a day on the road. I drove mine coast to coast on my recovery with zero problems.
You...
If it says "running" it means running, even on the GL. I was polite when I bought mine, but I informed them that it needed to be what they advertized, a running truck. When I got there it was sitting there purring in the parking lot.
That's what I'd do, take advice from someone who does not own an A3 and knows nearly nothing about them.
Somehow Cat managed to put a couple of hundred thousand 3116 engines in various things, from boats, buses, generators, heavy equipment and M35A3's in spite of the advice of A2 drivers...
I've actually driven a school bus, it is similar,,haha. It is large and Allison trannys shift about the same on everything. No deuce is going to burn rubber, but when you pull off the pavement, the green bus will win.
