Cat recommends one at the 500 hour mark and once every 1000 hours after that. My truck had 490 hours when I bought it. Depending on the Cat dealer or mech it should cost $200-$400 dollars. The A3 does not require a lot of disassembly to get to the engine, unlike many trucks with Cat engines...
Just a really nice overhead, filters, oil, diffs serviced, chasis lubed and trans serviced. It passed emissions when I got it home with flying colors. It is plenty quick for around town driving. Without an overdrive it really rides nice at 48-50 mph or so( about 2500-2600 rpm). Faster than that...
There is a publication out there that describes all of the upgrades it took to create an M35A3 and the estimated value of the parts used to gen up a "new" A3. I might have it in a thumbdrive someplace.
All A3's are called 1993's no matter when they are made. They are all built to the same...
I really like mine, I drove it home from Georgia to Washington state last April. After a day at the Cat dealer and some TLC from an older mech with tons of 3116 experience he announced it was the best running one he had ever scene. I have to agree, after driving 3000 miles this spring and...
I've recovered from three places and they were all great to work with. I've got help loading, handy tips and directions, even local info on stuff to see as well as all my purchases in the condition advertized.
I'm thinking this guys behavioral problems are far from normal or reasonable...
I've driven all over the place in my deuce without a second look. Every fuel stop seems to result in someone asking where to buy one though.;-) I do take the time to wave at kids and old vets like seeing old trucks too.
Heck, I even passed emmissions testing with no problems. Most guys are...
Like I said, call GL and ask about filing a formal complaint and/or getting reimbursed for the property he destroyed willfully. The fact they have a vindictive prick working there does not give them the right to destroy your property. You bought it in a specific condition, not destroyed by an...
I got mine at Ft. Gillem, they were great. Some people are just rotten, be sure and call someone and complain that he destroyed the alternator thru his own abuse of YOUR truck. The GL folks might take note and do something or at least calm him down for the next guy. Airing up the tires...
I paid 700.00 for my MEP-002A with 4.3 hours on it. It needed filters and batteries. I had filters and used two NAPA lawn tractor batts for 30 bucks a piece. It looks like it has 4 hours on it and it fired up after I bled the fuel system and runs like a champ.
You cannot buy a diesel...
I cannot make the get togther because of work. I wish it was closer as well, chugging across the state at 48mph will take forever.
I really need a tan insulated roof for the cab, mine has crumbling insulation. The truck was painted tan in a hurry prior to deployment, they painted over...
I just recovered my M105A2 trailer with an F150 Ford. I used this hitch plate and a pintle with ball. It worked perfectly, cost about 150 bucks for the entire set-up and caan be used to tow regular trailers as well. I also stopped by Wallyworld and bought some magnetic trailer lights as well...
Here is a pic of the truck and trailer, sadly they are not color cordinated. But the trailer is depot NEW, everything works perfectly, brakes, lights and paint is less than a year old. I tookm it for a short spin today to see how everything worked and it was perfect.
Now, they approved my...
It is minty fresh and straight from a rebuild. According to the dates on everything, it was rebuilt in august of last year and sent to DRMO shortly afterwards. Now it lives at my house and is very happy behind my deuce.
Erik's Military and Industrial Surplus - Military Vehicle Parts, Industrial and Military Surplus Electronics
Erik has always offered up whatever information he had to help me work through the fixit's I've had with my truck.
I'm one of the few people here that actually owns and drives an A3. I heard all the usual stuff about the truck having a crap engine and junk trans. None of it is correct and most of it is not true. As far as the trans, check the fluid level first. The dip stick is under the passenger side...
You can disable the CTIS crap on that rim and pretend it is not there if you have too. Check with Erik's military surplus, he has a lot of A3 stuff and had good information when I had questions about mine. CTIS works best when powered off and left off, just my opinion but it is not worth the...
I own an A3, they came from AM General with a 150,000mile/36month warranty. Mine runs best about 2500-2600 on the highway at about 48mph. You probably get more life at 2000rpms but you go to slow. The military recommends 2700 rpms as a max and the factory redline is 2950rpm. Heat is also real...
I did a cross country road trip to recover my deuce, if the truck is up to the task it is an adventure. I drove I-80 for part of it and it is a decent road. If you can try again and get the truck home you might have a real adventure.
It was a killer solo trip, if I had more time and a...
