Why is your 1008 equipped with half-ton running gear (t-case and differentials)? Did the previous owner snatch out all of the good parts before he sold it to you?
The guy I bought my truck from said that he has bought 1008's before that were equipped with an open rear differential (all the trucks he buys are from military auctions), so I guess it is possible that you don't have a locker.
If the truck was bought from a private owner I would guess that the original axle(s) has been removed. M1008 axles are very popular additions to offroad projects and can bring good money, so they were probably used in another project or sold by the PO. Are the axles in the truck still the Dana...
Just to update - I tried the '94 Chevy brake hoses. They are long enough for the 6" lift, but the short hard line that goes into the banjo fitting looks pretty vulnerable to trail debris as it kind of sticks out. I am also having an issue getting the passenger side hose to seal at the fitting...
Drive line angles are good. I did grind the stops on the front driveshaft but it was no big deal. For now I am running a steering block as I already had it on hand, but I plan on converting to crossover steering in the near future.
Been a busy week....
In addition to the new harmonic balancer, I installed:
-new king pin bushings (ORD)
-new drag link ends
-6" Superlift springs in the front
-DIY4X shackle flip in the rear w/ 6" shackles
-Humvee radials on 9.75" wide wheels
All I have left is to bleed the brakes (I ran...
It had a pretty good wobble at idle. I would not say it was totally shot, but I tend to let things like that bother me if I know they need attention. My engine ran fine too, but I did not want it to become a bigger problem. Just a visual inspection with it on the engine it didn't look to bad...
Changed out the harmonic balancer today. It definately was not as quick or easy as some people described but was pretty straightforward. It took me about 5 hours to complete but it was definately worth the time and a few busted knuckles. I will add that it definately helps to have a buddy on...
The guy I bought my truck from does the same thing (44's, high horsepower big blocks, mudding and some jumping) and also runs steering blocks and said he's never had any trouble out of them. I am also going to run one for now since I have on on hand already but will upgrade to crossover when...
Ok I figured out which ones will work. The brake lines off of a '94 C2500 2wd light duty (7200 gvwr) are the same as the stock '85 K30 lines but are about 6" longer (stock is 15.625", these are 21.5"). The ones for the '94 C2500 8600 gvwr are only about 2" longer so they really wouldn't help...
GVWR is more than likely alot more than any 3/4 ton.....
I wanted to get these brake lines as they are less then $20 each where the ones the offroad outlets sell go for about $100 or more.
I am between Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend lakes close to the TX/LA state line.
I read in another thread where Westech stated that brake lines off of a '94 Chevy 2500 2wd were a direct replcement for the lines on the 1008 but were 4" longer. Since my truck is soon to be lifted I figured I would go ahead and get them. I was looking at buying these but there are two versions...
