I think you mean spool but yes, a limited slip will act just like a locked locker or spool on slick surfaces. They only have better manners on dry(ish) surfaces and frankly, lockers aren't all that bad (in the rear). For a DD I wouldn't do anything to the front if you were planning on...
Never found them terrible on the road. Had them in two trucks now over several Northern Michigan winters and I had no issues. Drive sane and it's alright.
Never liked the compromises a limited slip made you take. Not to mention a limited slip will send you spinning in truly slick stuff just...
Remember the CUCV's use different alternators than the civy trucks. Not sure if that means the brackets are different or not. Might cause problems trying to bolt the civilian AC stuff in there.
A guy on CK5 is completely redoing his 1028 right now and he's gone with an aftermarket AC setup...
Go ahead and do cross over steering. Much safer, more reliable, and more capable than the stock system bandaided to work with that much lift.
Also time to do the ORD steering brace.
I'm with FMJ.
Big Ugly is still 24v but only because the system hasn't given me trouble. As soon as it does, it's gone.
The Roscommon conversion gets a lot of props around the web and various places. If you correctly follow their instructions you'll get a good working, reliable 12v vehicle...
As in the GM 6.5L gear reduction starter?
If so then yes you need the 6.5L bracket.
Use the older, 6.2L starter bracket for the 6.2L starters and the newer, 6.5L starter bracket for the 6.5L gear reduction starters.
In the front it is an open diff so only one tire will spin if you are really stuck. That's normal. It'd the tire with no traction.
In the rear if the Grenade Lock is working properly what should happen is one tire spins for a little bit and then at a certain (hopefully low) speed the "locker"...
I did, and it was a picture of a big tire.
Too big for my needs. Would have to regear, upgrade the brakes, lift, etc etc etc etc to fit something that much taller.
Thanks!
A bunch of us on here and CK5 got sets of them when they were being surplused out a few years ago but now they're rare. There's a new set on Ebay right now and the guy wants $1000 before shipping.
What is that?
Yep, cut to fit and modify things! I've got 1" of front lift, an...
There's a bunch on my CarDomain page via my profile here. Also have a bunch on Colorado K5 - Full-Size GM 4x4 Restoration and Off Road Community .
Here's some to wet your whistle though.
CASE, looks good man. Check Search Tempest - The EASY way to search Craigslist! . Searches Craigslist (and Ebay) over a broader scope than the internal searches of CL. I've found a couple guys who sell CUCV parts here in KY that way.
Lions had a good point, check out Colorado K5 - Full-Size...
I had 36" HMMWV bias plies on mine with no lift. Alfa sold it to me that way. That's one thing...
How tall would those be?
Only problem I see is the price of those wheels! Holy crap! Not to mention most of them have over 5" of backspacing to fit modern vehicles and they run rather...
