Steel Soldiers emails and site issues

I say keep V right where he is. V from the movie was more of a fighter for natural rights and less of a fighter for overthrowing the existing financial and political system. Natural rights vs overthrowing and creating new entitlements (not rights) are two very different things. Probably one...

    Mass Area Junkyards

hmmm... I am always down for a salvage yard run and presently unemployed so most days work. Anyone? I am in central mass but willing to drive.

    Sad Sad Sad

yeah :( Those are getting super rare around here. I would absolutely kill for a Gladiator with the vertical bar style grill and an M715.

    Sad Sad Sad

Looks like a J-truck / full size wagoneer grill and frontend on top of it too.

    Lets See Your 5-Ton!

if that is bad judgement please use your good judgement... I will take her AND the extra truck off your hands

    Broken Turbo Studs

If you use a wire brush to clear as much rust off the threads the nut will be backed off across you can save yourself a lot of headaches. Not like I ever remember to do this, but the times I have, it helped amazingly.

Oshkosh Snow plow W/ frozen motor

Personally I would bring it down to AZ. That would probably cost a fortune though, around a thousand miles at 2.50/mile (from what I'm seeing)... though assuming it ends up staying with you it has to go that distance eventually anyways. The sad part is that with fuel approaching 4 dollars a...

Oshkosh Snow plow W/ frozen motor

I really like the grease fitting idea. Going to have to keep that. Pop the valve cover off, see if the valves are stuck. If they move, try getting the crank moving... if they don't, you should probably pull the heads and work that stuff over before you try and get the pistons/crank to move.

My axle fell off on the way home!

GL is known for providing descriptions best described as "a glorious work of fiction" based on their cursory inspection, so I'm not too surprised, it was gonna happen eventually. People have even showed up for their prebid inspection, seen the truck running and in decent condition, then come...

My axle fell off on the way home!

This is actually the tamest forum I'm still on... I left a couple others because they were too tame for me and I decided it'd be best for all involved if I simply faded away rather than ending up banned :-P I can think of a few sites that sell those dogbones if you are looking for them. On the...

didn't notice! Oops. I saw recent replies and assumed it hadn't been thread necromanced.

    5 Ton Recover---gone bad

This is exactly what I was going to suggest. Oil pan is low enough pressure that as long as your weld is structural enough to hold the patch in place and handle road debris, you are fine with it plus a good coating of RTV for good measure.

    A very old junkyard

What are they worth scrap? My bet is they are assuming parts value for sheetmetal, drivetrain etc and scrap value for what's left when they come up with those numbers. It's entirely unrealistic, but that's what they are probably thinking. EDIT: scrap is what, 220 a ton for #1 iron now? I am...

New EPA Regulations On Large Truck Emissions

nah. The world won't end till the evening of 1/18/2038 here in the states fat lady sings cargo ships actually burn way thicker stuff than WMO. They burn thick residual fuel oil / bunker oil, it's basically asphalt. You can pick the stuff up with a putty knife when it's at room temp. The...

what are you gonna do with that porsche of junk?

    Deuce/5 ton ROPS Kit?

All this has me considering something. Wonder how easy / hard it would be to find a cheap-ish surplus LIDAR system and mount it under the tailgate, looking straight back? Then set it up to alert the driver via flashing light if something approaches the rear at more than say 20mph. Chance of...

    Lets See Your 5-Ton!

I like the idea, but not the exercise! Those tires get REAL heavy when you are playing with 6-10 of them. Rims are over 100lbs each iirc, I think my 11.00x20 tires are around 150-200 each, and my 395s are 230+ each.

    Deuce Tailgate Crane

wish I was closer! One of those would come in real handy.

Fall 2011 Rausch Creek MV Rally

On the subject of tools, not helping the same guy again is the worst choice to make! I found that out when I was a professional greasemonkey, I accidentally left my oil filter socket and an extension bar under the hood of a customer's car. I blamed another guy (well, pretty much anyone but me)...

    Fall 2011 Rausch Creek rally

did you make it home somehow? That was a pretty rough break (no pun intended), makes me think a lot about how much I trust the brake system in my truck.
