One of the by products of doing this process is hydrogen gas. Remember the Hindenberg and what happened there? Hydrogen gas! Do it in a well ventalated space or outside only. The problem with using stainless steel is the release of the chromium from the stainless steel. Very toxic stuff...
The zinc primer is the cause of your paint adhesion problems. It is not generally made to be top coated. A good sandblasting and zinc phosphorous acid etch and then 2 coats of P.O.R. 15 would be the best way of preventing rust. I use all P.O.R. 15 products and have excellent results with them...
Most big rig engines have in addition to the cam shaft being driven the injection pump or a balance shaft in the engine or power steering punp. M35 for instance has the injection pump being driven and if you have hydraulic steering in some cases a pump also. The more crap you can run with those...
With the big diesel engines there is generally something else being driven (injection pump, balance shaft) in addition to the cam shaft.
When you add in other things you tend to end up with kind of a cancelling effect on the harmonics and change their frequency.
The experiences appear to come...
Fun facts.
1. Gear drives use horse power. Tested on dyno 383 chevy and 440 chrysler average loss is 5 hp at flywheel. New timing chain vs. new geardrive.
2. Gear drive more consistent timing over timing chain (lifespan). But advancing cam 2 degrees extra will offset some of this.
3. Timing...
The big advantage of the self energizing brake system is the self adjusters which is why they were put into cars in the first place.
Instead of having to take the car in to have the brakes adjusted when the pedal was starting to get low, the automatic adjusters did it automatically everytime you...
The guy that owns it is a member here. If you look in the older deuce forums you will find they did do a lot of work to that truck.
Sorry I can't recall his name or threads. If I remember right it is a pretty solid old truck but does have some mudd in it.
Hope this helps,
Denny
Nice write up and pictures![thumbzup] Very nice and clean install, looks almost factory. One thing I would have done differently though is where you have sharp corners where you cut the frame I would have radiused them to avoid stress fractures in the corners, otherwise excellent install! No, I...
Those are low rpm engines so a port match and polish would kill low end torque and may cause fuel mixture issues such as puddling in the intake ports. With low rpm engines you need the fuel and air mixture to tumble a little so you get good fuel atomization and mix. Instead go through and clean...
