    CUCV electrical issues (of course)

I had 2 of the problems you mentioned. The sticking horn was just something stuck under the horn button, quick fix. With the lock cylinder the cylinder itself was shot.

    Compliance with DOT???

You need to be carefull when it comes to stuff like this. Recently there was a group with some armor who were coming into Michigan to participate in a reenactment. They were stopped at the scale and they didin't have log books, ect under the I'm hauling my own stuff for non comercial use. The...

    Thunder Over Michigan 2009

Hi Ida, Sorry I didn't touch base with you at TOM, but I was going 100mph with my hair on fire being involved with both battles. We were there with the M35 and the M114, halftrack and weasel. Take Care, Lew VB

    Thunder Over Michigan

20th Century at War has been tasked with running the convoy portion of the VN battle. There is a VN battle both days. A couple of things, for the VN vehicles, they need to be either flat or Semi gloss OD. I'm not going to get picky if it is WW2 green, Post ww2 semi, VN semi, or 383, or solid...

    run away starter

It's most likely that the starter relay under the dash welded it self togather. The has happed to my kid's M1009 acouple of times. It's enough that everyone who drives in knows what to do if it happens {pull the relay}, and I carry a spare in the glove box. There and a few different things...

    Quick on off hardtop ideas?

Ejection seat... There have been many times where I've hit a good bump and the spring seat tried to put me through the roof. I now instinctively duck when I see a good size bump coming. With my top I just run with the 2 windshield bolts and 2 of the bolts in the back. A couple of minutes...

    No Lights! Help please...

Do you have power to the head light fuse. Our truck had a dead wire between the firewall and the fuse box and all of the things you listed was dead. Use your wiring diagram and then run the wiring either forward of back from that fuse. Lew VB

    CUCV M1008 - RunAway Starter

Ours is just hanging there also. We've gone through 2 of them. First stopped working and the second arced itself togather {stupid move on my part} and the started did what you discribed. I now have it just tucked up in the ste-ice harness for easy access and I keep a new spare in the glove...

    8,620 lbs of gravel

I've done approx 14,000 with mine twice. The first time with 9.00's and the second with the 11.00's. Huge difference. The 9.00's were squating quite a bit and the truck looked like is was loaded heavy. With the 11.00 you could hardly tell there was any weight. Yes, shoveling it all out sucks!

    M105 overnight camper

What we have done is take a regular m105 with tarp, added some nice indoor-outdoor carpet. Took a couple of the VN era hammocks and slung them from the front to the back. Added a 2x10 across the back to raise up the back of the hammocks. It makes for a quick easy weekend camper.

    M1008 Alt overcharging at 15.1v

Our M1009 also runs with the voltmeter sits at the top of the green, about a 1/2 a neddle with off from red. While we're talking about cucv alts {if you don't mind me kind of hijacking}, my ALT 1 light stays on when the truck is started untill you give it just a slight rev, then it goes {and...

how cold has it been and started?

Our m1009 pushes heat really good. We went shopping last night and it warmed up really good inside on the way home and the thermometer said -2.2 {thank goodness for Lake Michigan} when we walked in the door. Thursday night we went of a longer drive {hour or so} and it was pushing enough heat...

Vietnam Painted Vehicles needed in MI!!!!!!

VT, You are absolutely right, Thunder is a great event. We were there last year for the WW2 battles with our Halftrack, weasel and 37mm AT. This year we are putting togather our TOM 2009 plan that will include our M114. It will be a busy weekend for us switching between WW2 and VN uniforms...

    85 M1009 CUCV purchase AAR

One thing you have listed as a con but it really is a pro, it's 23 years old and a normal person can work on it. These things are basic that anyone with a basic tool set can do a majority of work on them. With my '99 Durango I wouldn't know where to start other than brining it in to the...

Multifuel Engine life - the facts from Uncle Sam

My 1970 AMC-Jeep, '86 rebuilt M35a2 has 63,000 on the speedo and I've put 7,000-8,000 on it in the 6-7 years I've owned it

    New from Michigan

Greetings and welcome aboard from the Tulip Patch. It's great to see more OD in Michigan. We just picked up a M1009 last summer and we're thinking about the Custer trail ride this spring if the date works out. Since they redid the trails acouple of years back, taking the M35 ended up being a...

This thing is really noisey and slow ??

We had a m1008 on the FD I was on. We went from a m880 to the m1008 and everyone freeked out that it sounded like it was going to blow up at 55 compared to what the guys were used to with the m880. I found that my m1009 got much quiter running B20 or 2 gal of hyd oil per tank of fuel.

    Dodge Ram COMBATT Truck

A friend of mine has the Ford COMBATT truck that he uses for a USAR horse plattoon. I've worked on it and had the pleasure of driving it numerous time. It is a heck of a neat truck, and over built is the understatement of all time. It's something to drive by FLIR.
