Still can't get the gears out of the pumpkin of my M1008. I'm in Rosepine/DeRidder, LA. I can't afford to buy a spreader, but if anyone has one in the area I'm sure we could work out some form of compensation.

Apparently there's a "differential pinion shaft lock screw" that must be removed, then take out the pinion shaft. Is that necessary to take the whole thing out or is that just for disassembling the gears?

I have a gasket here whenever I get ready to put it back together. I took the four bolts and two "c" clamp things, but still haven't figured out how to remove the guts. I'd like to clean everything thoroughly and inspect for any damage.
Still can't get the lower passenger side dust cap off... mainly because the race will not come down. I buggered it up pretty bad with a punch. It slipped off the side and now I have some holes right through the middle of the cap.
Giblet gravy anyone?
Glad I took off the cover. As soon as the bottom bolts started loosening, I saw water coming out. When the cover came off, it barfed this mess on me.
So, now I need to figure out how best to clean THIS also, as there's some visible residue still, and I'm sure there's...
As an extension project while doing a partial rebuild of my front end, I've noticed quite a bit of a mess inside the axle. I've included pictures looking through the "inner C's". When I pulled out the shafts, there was surface rust and dirt on them, so I'm going to replace all the seals as...
Took some more pics of the knuckles and king pins. Knuckles are dirty as all get out. Fair amount of surface rust. Hopefully I can clean them up. Upper king pins (I'm going to have to leave them in place for now) look good. Smooth and shiny. No lumps, bumps, corrosion, or pitting. Now of course...
Finally. Passenger side still has a stubborn cap thingy on the bottom, but driver side is good to go. Pics are of passenger side. Third pic is the bottom view of lower cap thingy that's still smashed up and wedged in there. The bearings are already out. Hammer time?
Here she is...
I'm not really comprehending how to take the knuckle off without removing all the parts. That would be pretty awesome, as I'd like to give it a good cleaning up and maybe throw some rust-blocking paint on it if that's a safe option.
Trying to do a rebuild in accordance with my earlier thread, but can't get the dang thing off. I've soaked it in Kroll (sp?), smacked it with a hammer, and tried to pry it (can't get ANYTHING in between the knuckle and cap). I'm at a loss. I will be gathering all the information to create a...
Lower King Pin Bearing Cap help...
The little bastard won't come off! I can't get a screwdriver or chisel in between it and the knuckle so I can start prying. Any suggestions?
Here's the parts I took off today. Passenger front spindle seems to be in great shape. Lucky me! There is an awful lot of rust everywhere though, and I guess that's to be expected. I was surprised to see rust INSIDE the axle though.
Lesson learned the hard way...

Here's where I stopped. Took off the upper and lower bolts on what I believe is called the steering knuckle. I have new ball joints, so I'd like to replace them, but can't figure out how to get the old ones out. Checked TM's all the way to 20, 20p, 34, and 34p and still out of luck. Myabe...
