    M1008 Timing chain replacement

I will soon be changing the water pump on my m1008. I figure when I have front of the motor apart I should do the timing chain. Would you all recommend this? If so what TM outlines the procedure? I can’t seem to find it through my own research or searching the forum. Is there anything else I...

Ever seen a 6.2 balancer break?

Mine was wobbling and I just replaced it with a fluidamper. you could see the rubber was dry rotted on the original (low mileage engine) Truck runs a little smoother now but it wasn’t some amazing transformation. I’d like to think I avoided a problem. Not much else to say about it

    Grill recon or replace?

Anyone strip paint off their grill without ruining it? Mine came to me as a peeling mess with at least 4 layers of paint. I see after market grills are available, should I just replace and hang the old one on the wall in the shop? Or strip this one and repaint?

    Who’s ran 5.38 gears?

The OP has a turbo 6.5. I know it’s not a modified big block but it’s more than my stock 6.2 has!

    Who’s ran 5.38 gears?

How is that 700r4 holding up with the extra power and 40s? Have you been running it for a while or driving it hard? still on the fence between a 700r4 and a 4L80e

Ever find anything interesting hiding in your CUCV?

Not many hiding places in a m1008

Is the fluidampr balancer worth the $?

Mine definitely smoothed the truck out a bit and added peace of mind. I wouldn’t say it was an amazing transformation but it hopefully increased reliability. My belt issues were solved by going with the correct belts mentioned on this site and swapping a tweaked alternator pulley out. My...

    Cucv Trac Lok ???

So the standard M1008 front end is open? For some reason I thought it had a limited slip differential.

    Power steering fluid capacity

Job has been completed, only took about 2 quarts and finally got rid of all the chirping a squealing under the hood. Next up is resealing the oil pan, trans pan, and replacing the rear main seal.

    Virginia MSMVs?

Not from Virginia but I will add my M1008 is titled as a Chevy D30 (K30 diesel) as far as the DMV knows it's nothing special.

    Brake upgrade options

Was is a worth while upgrade? Either better stopping or cheaper consumables?

    Power steering fluid capacity

I wonder if the Technical Manual specified ATF so the military would have one less fluid to deal with or if that’s what GM recommended for all K series trucks

Resistor bypass and belt squeal **FIXED**

Good thing they are easy to change! I have gates belts on there and it was still squealing the drivers alternator even when guitar string tight until I changed that pulley. The factory pulley had quite a bit of wobble for some reason, this truck has a take out engine from another vehicle I...

Resistor bypass and belt squeal **FIXED**

For those that are wondering this is the pulley I used https://brillman.com/product/alternatorgenerator-pulley-38-10mm-belt-width-x-2-933-od-x-17mm-id/ One of the alternators that came with my truck was aftermarket and the (very important) factory alignment spacer that comes behind the fan...

    Power steering fluid capacity

Unless I’m mistaken (which has been known to happen) The TM calls for Dexton II which is/ was trans fluid. Dexton VI is now available and can be mixed or used in its place. I see GM also has what is branded as “power steering fluid” is this different stuff? should I use dextron or power...
