    Tire fail-- typical kind??

Nice tip as to PSI. Was 42,XXX Lbs gross. Carry tools, chains + full tank. Sounds like tossing treads, like a re-cap, IS the failure mode if I am reading the other comments correct. I do that $25.50/ ton Lime Stone run once or twice a year. First run on this tire, and first Blow Out. Put on...

    Tire fail-- typical kind??

Official- 9.83 short ton. 60 PSI x 6. Mine looked/ looks bit better than yours, but basic idea . Remain surprised as basically "thru a retread" look. My bolts Did Not come out of axle cap. Touched axle center and estimate 130 deg, above warm tarmac. Lastly- looked much like your aft one pre...

    Tire fail-- typical kind??

Hard to read any codes as neighbor used saws-all to cut tread so it could be pulled out of way . Maybe 2007-8-or 9? Tread was about 1/2 and no visible cracks. This is my only truck with this scale of tires. Thought "tread-skin" delamination a very odd failure when not a re-cap! Tire spent...

    Tire fail-- typical kind??

Hi al , have An A2, M25. Hauling some limestone and blew rearmost Goodyear Super single. Dislike changing them road-side, loaded. Anyway, Heard air loss Hiss- no "pop". In 100 or so yards tread completely separated, like tossing a recap, only tread stayed in a ring. Is this normal...

    solar panels - bat charging

Lot of good info here. PLAN- Have 9 Volts now out of 2 panels, in series-part sun day. Ordered # Xh-m411 Dc-Dc adjustable booster. Will try to set it at 29-30 V to feed my 12V-24V "controller" I have- attached at 24 V via an inline fuse. Don't expect to "light Manhatten", but may get a solid...

    solar panels - bat charging

Thanks again guys. I failed to consider the BOOST controller thing. Think I bought a 12/24V "Charge controller " instead, and assumed it needs a feed over 24 (26??) volts. Will look for the thin "hand book". New to "solar" and "solar terminology".

    solar panels - bat charging

Very cool! Glad I did not toss my Panels. I tried mine with an aftermarket "box" as my truck came with 2 panels and no "box-brains". Didn't work. Think I just need to now find a good OEM "box" or 2. Thanks.

    solar panels - bat charging

Thanks for replies. I checked, and both combined do not put out over 14V before converter thing on a bright day, so I pulled my fuse so as not to be a drain. If they are a gimmick, I'll just forget it. I thought they may be a good idea as batteries are now pricy. Good to get insight...

    solar panels - bat charging

Hi all. My 5 ton A2 was USAF, had 2 cowl solar panels- about 5 1/2" X 4 1/2"each . Would like to change them- low volt output now. Were they a local- base thing, or a regular part that may be available surplus? Bought truck at local auction, so no history. I bought aftermarket "inverter" to...

Small -spin on- fuel filter change interval

Thanks All. Truck has about 6,400 miles- 360 hrs. Changed big one with oil. Think I'll leave the little one for now, drain + enjoy.

Small -spin on- fuel filter change interval

My GUESS is that the little one was general spec by engine maker. Military may have said - "not good enough", and kept proven bigger.

Small -spin on- fuel filter change interval

I have the little 8.3. After servicing the large filter, I thought the little guy is getting a "free ride".

Small -spin on- fuel filter change interval

Hi all, very basic question. If I change, drain, and maintain the large first filter, how often do I need to change the little one? Seams like it could last for decades.

Vaccuum at fuel filter water drain- prove anything?

Thanks for fast reply. Tank is full, truck slightly parked nose high. Runs OK post start. Wondered what "Normal" should be at that drain-yes, the big filter, aft of fr tire, should be at "engine off, cranked a bit". Thinking holding vac and no water, no fuel OK, but wanted to ask...

Vaccuum at fuel filter water drain- prove anything?

Hi all, hope basic question- my A2 needed lots of cranking for a cold start yesterday. 1/2 way thru- engine off-I cracked the (military/big) fuel filter water drain. Was sucking air in. Does that prove any trouble? Thought that that might prove suction lines OK. Note that that filter was new...

    Concerns with going synthetic?

Post script. I vote name brand 80W or 90 W in axles. Plan on 5 tot Gal lube oil in motor. Low to high safe about 2 qts. Low to High safe on stick. I like to follow the Military lube orders, with quality modern oil and filters. No need to re-invent the wheel.

    Concerns with going synthetic?

Hello. Your fight. On my low miles A2 I stay with quality conv. oil and a good filter. I respect Syn oil and use it in several of my cars, but do not see the need here. Slight chance of leaks, and not slight chance of oil burn not worth it to me. Oil sump heater appreciated on my truck...

    Electrical Issues

Sounds like your batteries, cables, and grounds are all ok. Starter also. I'd look to the start switch, at least until an electrician can chime-in. I'd work it vigorously and give it a rap with a hammer handle before you open or remove it. Little down side. Good Luck.

    Electrical Issues

Hello . If I follow- you have a jumper at N. Start Switch, and jump 24 volts to starter to crank. If so- sounds like 2 troubles. 1- screwed up N S W as you probably knew, and 2.- you need to trace hot and ground from the batts to, then thru your bat switch- then in and out of your start switch...
