Ok I know this only too 3 months to get pics up(sorry they are links to Facebook but it'll work), but here they are lol
This is the engine I put in. Its a civi Willys F-Head, but no one can tell just by looking at it. I did put all of the military equipment back on it so it looks correct...
Awesome find!! I would love another M38A1, but right now one is fine. I like all the looks you get when you're out driving one and the most common question, "Did you buy that jeep like that? Or did you paint it up like that?" People never seem to ask if its the real deal or not! lol
Thanks again Nick! I will try and get some pics up of the re-fit soon. Mike_L right now I'm working through some bugs, got a few oil leaks that need attention and I think I have the distributor 180 degrees out, so it may just be myself & my M101 trailer this weekend. But I am looking forward to it!
You might try Midwest Military, John might be a little high priced but he may be re-popping those. Or you gould try over @ G503.com and see if they are selling M38 parts. Hope this helps!
The fuel pump went on fine, I did have a little trouble with the spacer on it. But the front generator bolt hole is my problem right now. I need to get a spacer on it or switch plates....not real sure what I want to do with it right now.
The oil pump went out in my old engine and it also had some compression issues. So I bought a running F-Head engine that came out of a CJ-5, I'm just about finished getting all of the military stuff back on it finally lol
Yep that's what I didn't want to worry about either! If you scratch it just get the rattle can of 24087! How did you figure out the frame was tweaked? Did it drive funny or something? I read your blog earlier and I really like your Jeep!! It looks pretty nice!
Yeah that's what my plan is for my M101, its an all original '61 that was civil air patrol from what my dad says. And my Jeep looks waaay better in pictures than what it really is. Lol it needs work but that's why I like it. Overall it's a pretty solid piece of American steel!
I got the civvy mounts and modified them a bit. I took the welds out on the bottom plate on my originals and separated them and bolted the bottom plates to the new mounts. The support rod does fit in the hole where it goes. I will try and post pics today with how I did this. It looks like to me...
The ones I ordered were on the 2nd link. They look identical! As soon as I get to leave work, I'm going home to put them in. Then hopefully I will be setting my engine back in place tonight! :grd:
Are the CJ5 & M38A1 engine mounts the same? Mine need to be replaced, they are in very bad condition. If they are the same I found out earlier today that the local auto parts store can get the CJ5 mounts. I really hope they are the same as the A1. aua
Been working pretty hard on my A1 and finally getting to the point where I can put my engine back in! I'm really excited to see it this far and can't wait to go to the INMVPA Rally @ Ropkey Armor Museum here in about 3 weeks!
