No, a 6.5 does not mean the transmission has been upgraded.
The easiest way to see if the transmission has been upgraded is to look to see if it has a "P" for Park on the shifter. The 3 speed transmissions only have R-N-D-2-1 where the 4-speeds have P-R-N-Overdrive-D-2-1
More vague "answers" with promises of action "tomorrow". He was confidently ignorant about the situation and kept waffling between contradictory statements.
When I asked about getting some protections codified in the law, he said he'd have to ask the State Police representative before he'd...
I "financed" my HMMWV as well. Since I'm using it as just another pick-up truck at the moment, it was like any other vehicle purchase. The difference was that I was going to sell my VW from the diesel emissions scandal and put that money towards a HMMWV. When VW was dragging their feet and...
The problem I have is that when installed the catches don't extend far enough out to latch the door. I had to loosen the door handles to get them to reach far enough.
One of those annoyances that I just haven't looked into fixing completely...
Mine was similar. In order to change it I ended up having to add washers between the switch and the mounting flange to essentially place the switch further from the brake pedal's linkage point. Doing this brought it back to the window where you could adjust it to be in and out.
Even after...
Certain threads in the HMMWV forum have been disappearing, I assume for this reason. Is there any way to talk about the release of new products by the feds for sale without infringing on this rule?
Keep in mind that the ranges were said to be approximate. Also, there might be a discrepancy about whether Date of Delivery is the same as Date of Manufacture. The two might be very different. I'd imagine the truck could be manufactured by AM General in late 1993, and it might have either sat...
Still no update from the DMV. I'll be having a phone conversation with my Delegate today to see what he recommends.
It has been 1 month since the last time they have contacted me to tell me I'd get an answer "soon". It has been 2 months since this started at the branch desk.
I think yours went through Demil just like mine, but they left mine as is after Demil completely stripped, while they went the extra mile and spiced yours up hoping to gain extra money from the resale. The ones I saw, it looked they did a paint job and still didn't bother cleaning anything up...
No offense taken! I thought federal code specifically said military vehicles were excluded from the FMVSS and that sticker was not required for them ever. There was even a letter from the NHTSA (I think) to California which said that the federal government did not require California to block...
I tried to word my post so that it was clear with the 2nd to last sentence in the first paragraph. I don't expect the federal government to tell the state what to do. However, the state is trying to use federal code to tell me why the vehicle is not safe for road use. So that IS a federal...
Like I said I would, I went to the local Open Door meeting with Representative Bob Goodlatte's staff member. It was myself and 10 much older people who didn't know each other. As you can imagine, health care dominated the conversation. Once the round table got to me I warned I was going to...
Those went over the crossmember to the rear of the transmission with the threaded portion pointing down. They likely held on some of the armor. I know of 3 M1123s that still had them on after demil, including mine.
Mine actually had a picture on the auction that showed them on the vehicle:
Still no update from the DMV.
I came across this video on YouTube that shows them conducting the demil on an M1123, this is likely how these trucks were set up. Or at least a lot of them. Armored troop carriers.

Thanks for the shoutout. :jumpin:
He ended up contacting me, and what he wants to do sounds pretty tame but I wanted to be there for everything that was happening since this truck is my baby, and I doubt that would have been possible with our schedules.
I gave him another contact that I hope...
1 ) You will be "the Humvee guy". Any identity you had prior will be gone. People will feel compelled to make some kind of judgment about you as a person. Good and bad.
2 ) It will be rare that people ask questions about it, most will TELL you about it. Most of the time incorrectly. They'll tell...
Agreed. I bought the BlueHummer kits for extra protection and a reusable locking nut kit. Wheels falling off on the highway is a common enough occurrence on Hummer H1s that it's made me fearful of it. The Civvy spindle locking mechanism is different than the military one (I think), but it's...
