I have experienced this same scenario with my M1009. Screaching, long cranking before start up is the gears; either on the starter or the flywheel, with broken or missing teeth. I replaced my starter the first time then the second time around the flywheel and another starter. The...
Never gelled in my M1009...
Yet! I hope it doesnt happen either.
When I first saw my M1009, being delivered on a trailer it was winter in NW OH. Snow, ice everywhere and temps in the teens and the truck started right up. I have had mechanical issues; glowplugs, starters, flywheel go bad but...
On the rear window topic, anyone have a complete locking hand crank with matching key?
LMC doesnt have a complete set in stock.
It does help keep my window clear since it is not rolling down right now...
Loaded up my 86 M1009 so full that the back window wasnt visible and drove from NW Ohio to Atlanta on Saturday. My wife, our two labs and I drove the I-75 south and averaged about 65 mph for the trip. I was really surprised how much torque the CUCV had going through TN... I blew some coal (i...
I got my M1009 addiction off of ebay for about $1900 and in the last 18 months+ I have been replacing/repairing mostly internal components. Some repairs have been my own fault and others have been due to age of the vehicle (1986).
Rear end including drums (drove the wheel bearings/diff out of...
Wheel bearing issues can make sounds like a rumble as well as "drag" the truck to one side of the road while driving...
A good sign that the wheel bearing is bad would be to check the axle seals (as mentioned already) for leaking lubricant as well checking the wheel hubs for heat. If you have...
I just read the entire thread and I hope you keep at it watkinssr!!! [thumbzup]
I had some trouble reviving my 86 M1009 after purchase but nothing like your efforts...
I have my 1986 M1009 CUCV insured with progressive online...
It is listed as a D10 Military Blazer on my insurance cards. I am atleast the 2nd civilian owner though if that counts, clean vin and registered in the state of OHIO.
$43 bucks a month for my wife and I to be covered, not to bad since...
Thats the slot! I beat that crap out of that with a punch and sledge to no avail when I had my drum stuck... eventually all the hitting both punch and side of the drum just freed the drum. No steps like you mention, just dumb luck for me.
Also surplus or retail auto parts stores will carry...
Brakes pulling can be a seized drum but a leaking axle seal could also be a bad wheel bearing. A bad wheel bearing with a leaking axle seal and pulling to that side while braking can lead to wear on the differential gears and axles.
Are the hubs hot to the touch after driving? If so then I...
Welcome to the forum,
I have been through a starting gauntlet with my M1009 before but each truck seems to have its own maze off issues so hopefully somebody on here can point you in the right direction. I definitely have received awesome advice from this site!
A starting fluid/ether you can...
I had this happen to me, one side practically fell off and the other was impossible! I do recall there being a curved bean shaped slot inset on my drum but I didnt have success with this route because it wasnt stamped out of the cast like the civy model?
Eventually I beat the rear drum like I...
