1900 mile round trip from Napoleon OH to Newton KS last month
70 mph average, no problems
:deadhorse:
my wife drives it daily and loves it because its "big and rumbly"
The M1009 is healthy now but it did take some initial $$$ to get there on the one I bought
people transport-M1009 for 5 in cab or M1008 w/troop seats for tail gate parties
offroad-M1008
mud bogger- either w/some $$$
M1009 roll better on the freeway but M1008 will take more abuse
regardless these trucks are 25 years old so be ready to spend some $$$ on maintenance intially to stay...
??? used car salesmen will say anything to make a sale 2cents
M1009s are rad! I hope you have a blast in your new CUCV. 7k or 107k, either way the truck can last and last if taken care of. I cannot trust a used car salesman but the photos of your truck look good for $3k and if the M1009...
Had about 17-18 average on my M1009 for as long as Ive had it...
70 mph on the freeway but typically surface roads

I havent gone 12v in my M1009 but Stampy has a point...
I had issues starting/cranking so I put in a new multi gear 24v starter. Next day wouldnt turn over. Imagine the frustration of wrenching and not driving aua
Hit the air filter with a tiny touch of ether (NOOOO!) and it roared to life...
I emailed on the CPS-0001 and got a reply today...

Not really just a CUCV topic considering alot of military vehicle have NATO slave uses but today I found this online:
CPS-0001
It seems like a great unit and I was wondering if anyone on Steel Soldiers has one or an equal function alternative to having accessory power in the cab.
Also there...
CUCVs can be some work... but well worth it! I have a M1009 I purchased online from a veteran who was parting with his project. Great guy and a great truck. With some time and TMs I have had it as a DD for 13 months but it has had its share of issues. Trouble aside diesels are work horses and...
UPDATE
Im not that crazy after all :cookoo:
The issue seems to be corrected now after some new parts:
24v multi gear starter
Glow plugs and controller
Pair of batteries
Not sure if the glow plugs got weak over winter but the starter was shot anyway from cranking long... batteries really...
I have a daily driven 1986 M1009 and the truck rocks! Compared to any other 24 year old truck purchased for what these CUCV's go for it is hard to find an equal. 4x4, diesel, functional bumper hooks/grill guard, removable top and a camo paint scheme is what sold me.
Probably due to what I put...
The pains of a M1009... sometimes seem to out weigh the joy. Scan SS and you'll find youre not alone which is actually the best part about repairing these trucks! So many people on this site chime in with help and advice, other projects dont have a resource like this site!
I have my M1009 for...
Pardon my error in the title, its been a tiresome process and I failed to clarify.
Starting fluid with percents of ether aid in turning the engine over and then driving.
Currently without ether, the engine cranks but does not turn over as it should.
I do not mean to be so redundant regarding...
ARGGHH!!! more repost
Noob here
Basically my once faithful CUCV is now not starting on its own.:(
the story so far
New Batteries
New Starter
Fuel in tank :-D
Obviously the "issue" is one of detail and I will admit to not being able to nail it down...
I read an article in the TM section...
UPDATE
NEW STARTER MULTI GEAR 24v
TWO NEW BATTERIES
The electrical system seems sound, all lights are on strong, heater fan blows high but...
still no start.
This may be bad but it does turn over with a little starter fluid so I know the engine fires up. I drove
a bit and then stopped the...
