I didnt get the screw driver in more than a 1/4 inch. I had to clean all that tuff gasket pad off both sides with an old pocket knife I reserve just for that job. No burrs found. I bought gasket material at Napa, its a nice rubber cardboard composit stuff. Making the new gasket was not fun...
Oh yes the whole axle was on jackstands.
Well, I got it off. Broke two screwdirvers in the process.
I fell back on how we do things in the Army, brute force doesnt work, apply more force. I beat it with a sledge back and forth and used a really big pry bar on the steering arm as a counter force...
I am trying to replace the steering preload springs on the kingpins. I have the four bolts off the steering arm on on the drivers side knuckle, but I cannot get the steering arm to come loose off the knuckle.
I have pried on it a bit with a big bar but it wont come loose let alone come off...
I got the cover from Walker equipment in Victorville area.
Im afraid that the cargo cover may not be the only reason that my gas milage dropped so far.
Im afraid that even though my RPM dropped quite a bit while Im at 65mph, that maybe the torque required to maintain that speed may be taking...
Has any body with a truck that put a cargo cover up noticed how bad it effects the gas mileage on the highway.
In short, I put the cargo cover up first time the same weekend I installed the overdrive on the truck. I monitored my gasmilage religiously and used to get almost 16. Now, on the...
Getting ready for a national guard mission this week, and tower park. Jerry and I were PMing trailer and mule etc. Running out of time for alot of things.
Yeah, but can an 880 get 15 mpg at a constant 65mph.
My m1008 does 65 just fine, its kinda loud and it gets 15mpg constantly as long as I dont go over 65. Just this week, I installed a GV overdrive on it. Now I kick in the od around 45 and cruise on up. I cant wait to test my mileage now.
So I havent driven my 1008 in 4x yet.
I was doing other things and started up the truck and decided to shift it into TcaseN. I couldnt figure out how to get past the 4H. Manual didnt say to move the lever to the side and pull back.
Any way, I had the Tranny in N and went to shift the Tcase...
I got the rails and tabs and stuff set up to mount my cargo top on my 1008. My tailgate aparantly was salvaged from another 1008 that never had a cargo top so it does not have bolt holes for the strip with the twistlocks. I need to know how far down from the top of the tailgate the bolt holes are.
I havent had a death wobble since, but I drove it for 7 months without it over alot of bumps too.
I plan to replace the kingpin spring things as previously mentioned because I believe no doubt that is the root of the cause and that like said here, the damper masks the true problem.
Funny this thread comes up now.
I am redoing my spare because its rotted its so old. The guy I got the 1008 from didnt drive it much after re-tireing it in the early 90s. He put 265-75 firestones on it.
I put a goodyear wranger 235-75 back on the spare because its stock.
I thought alot...
Thanks for all the tips. Sounds like something is loose or worn out and I didnt find it on my first check. Ille tighten everything up and replace the stabilizer. Not sure what the other parts are or how to go about replacing them yet but Ille find out if they have play and get them repaced...
So I hit a bump in the road last night on my front left wheel and all of a sudden my sterring was jumping all over the place. I totally lost controll of my truck. I had to completely stop. I got out to check with a flashlight. Everything was still conntected so I drove home slowly and then...
Is anybody able to get me some measurements of the cargo bows? I need the hieght off the bed side and then the individual bow lenths so I can fab them up with EMT conduit.
Well, its seems that I have accumulated all the things I need for my truck, Ive located a radio rack and cable that I need to pick up, and an NOS vynal cover.
I have exhausted resources in SoCal for the cargo bows and Im sure shipping some from a dealer would not be cost friendly.
I have...
