Look for the newer HMMWV bumper tire mount. They have been on the surplus market here and there. They have a nice crank unit on a long scew shaft and it lowers the wheel to to the ground. Adaptable to a truck bumper with a little fabrication.
Never paid attention to details on this newer stuff unitll now. Ive been playing with coldwar vehicles. M38a1 and M37
Are all the fiberglass slats ( duce, 5 ton, HMMWV, and CUCV) made from the same stock?
I have finally aquried troop seats for my M1008a1, but I need the seat back slats for one side at the rear. Anybody know a dealer where I can get the fiberglass ones since mine are all fiberglass?
Also, I need the radio power cable. Big cable that goes from the firewall to the distribution...
The truck is breaking the bank. I just want one stock hub to put it back together. Im tired of going broke on it right now. If I could keep this truck running then I can eventually fix my m38a1 carb and get back to getting my m37b1 on the road.
Its a 1008a1.
I am not sure if the whole external half is good or not, but the internal part that goes behine the snap ring is what sheared apart. Sears put it back together and I just have the broken parts in a bag. The cap is screwed on the outside just fine. I havent had the truck long...
The bearings on my front left wheel went out and took my locking hub with it. Blew the insde of it apart.
Im having trouble finding a locking hub for the truck. The couple places I know of that I go for parts dont have them.
Has anbody got a source for CUCV parts or just got an extra hub...
Ok, well, I sort of wondered about the hoses. I just replaced the radiator after having it spot repaired twice and then all of a sudden most of the tubes started leaking from both sides.
I was not able to find a total replacement. Doesnt exist, so I had mine recored. Since no other vehicle...
Are the Radiator hoses normal 1 ton truck hoses or are they specail part numbers.
I just put a new super recore radiator in my truck. The latest thing I have had to replace since I bought this truck. Its litterally sucking me dry. Tonight its in the shop because the wheel bearings are...
I have the death wobble a little bit too. Usually manifests when I am slowing down and turning the wheel. I will look into the kingpins after I fix all the other darn problems I have.
Ok so I took my starter and the one I bummed off a buddy in and got them tested. Mine had a bad celonoid and I busted the field coil lead off so 150 bucks to rebuild it. My buddy's take off tested good so I put it back in the truck.
Well, whats the worst that can go wrong with this....I...
Well, I checked the relay and it seems to be working. I jumpered on the plug to get the celonoid to run and it just arced hard. I have a feeling the celaniod is toast.
So tonight I pulled the starter out. I got to say... that is one of the more difficult jobs I have done on an army vehicle...
Ok well, Im still stuck. I tested the relay, I put hands on it and turned the key to start, I can feel the relay engaging. So I pulled the plug and got a 10 gage wire and jumped red to purple. I got a nice arc the few times I did it. So I kinda think that what ever that goes to on the...
Ok..... I charged up each battery individually. My headlights seem pretty bright, my horn works nice and loud, and my truck still wont start.
Acctually is worse than that, I dont think the starter is working at all, or even getting power.
I turn the key and hear my glow modul engage, then...
I left the parking lights on and the truck wouldnt start. So I started up the m38a1 and plugged in the slave cable. The CUCV acted like the jeep wasnt even hooked up. No respsonse in the voltage gage, it still read between red and yellow. I verified that my slave had power at each end and my...
maybe the contacts inside the switch are stuck together.
My hazards dont work when I pull the switch or push it in or whatever. And sometime my left indicator doesnt work. Its an old truck and I just live with it. I spend my time chasing the leaks.
So I have learned that my 1008 leaks through the drivers door weather stripping, right onto me!
I cannot find the door piece top weather striping at the restoration place I looked up. Does anybody know the GM part number for the driver side? You know, the one that screws to the top of the door...
