    M1009 Flywheel Ring Gear / Starter Problem

    .015 clearence required between teeth and pinion.check and adjust as required.use correct gm bolts.tighten very slowly and evenlyuse some grease to see where the contact pattern is.it will be correct when in the center with gear extended.

    towing will be stressful in a m1009 that trailer is high and weights 2750 lbs.it sits 8 inches higher than a m1009 hitch.it will be fun to stop.you may sway all over the road.you need a receiver hitch with an adjustable.plate.i made an adapter hitch to retrive the m105.

    you might be better off by buying a surplus engine in a container.usually a running takeout.the cores are worth the price.ive had good service from these.

    a military connector is narrower than a civilian model.if necessary take an old one with you.will save time.i take mine out and test them occasionally.use never seize compound on threads on installation.this is a problem on this engine.check them early in the fall.wouldnt hurt to have some spares.

    go green.you cant go wrong with olive drab. most of my m1009s are green.

    you will have no trouble if you install a safety chain on each wheel.i have used dollys for 15 years and tow frequently.it is safe if you use common sense.i just got back on a 800 mile round trip yesterday.ive had wreckers for years.too much overhead.

    a tow dolly is better behind a m1009.it is easier with less weight and easier to drive with a short wheelbase.also less insurance and license hassles.

    not interchangable.have the tube replaced.and rebalanced.a lot cheaper than a replacment shaft.a truck equiptment co can usually do this.

    The reason you tow your m1009 home not drive

    there is a great way to tow with using a tow dolly.no insurance hassles its fairly fast and all you need to do is remove the rear driveshaft.a lot cheaper in the long run.

    How noisy is your 6.2 lit. M1009

    .the more timing is advanced the louder they become. they also tend to be louder when cold. after they warmup they quiet down.they are louder because of timing and no insulation.my 6bt cummins is louder than all my 6.2s.

    Can you tell whats missing from this 6.2?

    i have bought similar condition and replaced missing parts and got a good runner.most are picked clean by the time they are listed.sometimes it takes six months or more before being sold.it is time consuming to get a decent unit.but at 25 years old they need tlc.
